  • Publication number: 20220401201
Abstract: A dental care device may include a light emitting device configured to emit light according to a selected function of multiple functions of operation. The dental care device may also include a sensor configured to output movement signals representing movement of the dental care device and at least one processor. The processor may be configured to perform operations including determine a first movement of the dental care device based on the movement signals and in response to the first movement of the dental care device and in response to the light emitting device having a first status, direct a change in a function of operation of the light emitting device. The operations may also include in response to the first movement of the dental care device and in response to the light emitting device having a second status, direct a change in a status of the light emitting device.

  • Publication number: 20220202547
Abstract: A dental curing light includes a thermally conductive device body that efficiently conducts heat away from a light emitting diode (LED) assembly. The thermally conductive device body extends between a proximal end and a light emitting distal end to which the LED assembly is thermally coupled. The thermally conductive device body includes a handle portion extending to the proximal end and that is sized and configured for a dental practitioner to hold and manipulate with the hand. The thermally conductive device body acts as a heat sink to efficiently conduct heat away from the LED assembly during use. An electronics assembly and a rechargeable battery are disposed within a cavity of the thermally conductive device body. A sleeve or collar can be attached to the proximal end of the thermally conductive device body.

  • Patent number: 11273021
Abstract: A dental curing light includes a device body that efficiently conducts heat away from the light emitting diode (LED) portion of the curing light. The device body is one-piece body formed from a continuous seamless piece of thermally conductive material extending between a proximal end and a distal end. The one-piece body includes a gripping handle portion extending to the proximal end and a light-emitting head portion extending to the distal end. The one-piece thermally conductive body acts as a heat sink to efficiently conduct heat away from the LED dies during use. The one-piece body eliminates problems of multi-segmented curing lights that include one or more joints between adjacent segments. Eliminating joints increases thermal conductivity of the body, eliminates crevices where microbes can grow, and eliminates the risk of accidental separation if the curing light is dropped.

  • Publication number: 20190239994
Abstract: An optical converter assembly includes a housing, a securing mechanism, and a light converter. The housing defines a first opening that receives part of a light-emitting portion of a dental curing light when the housing is selectively secured relative to the light-emitting portion of the dental curing light. The securing mechanism selectively retains the housing relative to the light-emitting portion. The light converter is comprised of a phosphor material and secured relative to the housing such that input light having a first set of wavelengths and radiant power emitted by the dental curing light is received. The light converter converts the input light to an output light having a second set of wavelengths and radiant power and to emit the output light. The input light includes a blue light and an ultraviolet light that polymerizes a dental material. The output light may be a white light.
