  • Patent number: 7279544
Abstract: A multi stage process for the production of polycarbonates having low monomer content is disclosed. The process entails, in sequence, (i) transesterifying in the melt at least one dihydroxyaryl compound with at least one diaryl carbonate in the presence of at least one onium catalyst to produce a polycondensate that contains monomers, (ii) introducing into the polycondensate an inhibitor in an hypostoichiometric amount in relation to the catalyst and (iii) reducing in a finishing reactor the content of monomers in said polycondensate. The polycarbonate thus produced is characterized in that it contains less than 350 ppm of diphenyl carbonate, less than 40 ppm of 2,2-bis-(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane and less than 150 ppm of phenol.

  • Publication number: 20070214611
Abstract: A radial adjuster device is provided for use in conjunction with cargo transport carriers worn by animate load bearers. The radial adjuster device allows an animate load bearer to adjust each laterally positioned cargo transport carrier shoulder strap or other such support structure single-handedly, or alternatively to adjust each shoulder strap simultaneously using each hand to engage and rotate the radial adjuster device to achieve a desired position or balance of the cargo transport carrier. The radial adjuster device simplifies and optimizes cargo transport carrier adjustment to facilitate animate load bearers in properly positioning cargo transport carriers, and consequently avoiding the injury and discomfort associated with bearing improperly balanced cargo transport carriers. The spooling mechanism of the inventive radial adjuster device eliminates the inconvenience, unsightliness, and potential hazards associated with free-hanging strap ends of cargo transport carriers.

Abstract: A process for concentrating polymers by evaporation is disclosed. The process entails (i) obtaining a mixture containing a polymer and volatile component, the volatile components being present in the mixture at an amount less than 20 wt. % relative to the weight of the mixture, and (ii) introducing the mixture in a downward direction under pressure through a plurality of nozzles arranged vertically and next to one another into a degassing container to form an extrudate. The volatile component contains at least one of residual monomers, oligomers and solvents, and the throughput of the mixture per nozzle is 0.3 to 2 kg/h. The vapor pressure of the volatile component of the extrudate is more than 2.5 bar, and the absolute pressure in the degassing container is 50 to 5000 Pa. The polymer prepared by the process is characterized in that it contains volatile components in an amount of less than 300 ppm.
