Patent number: 9071936Abstract: Apparatus and methods are disclosed for determining a position of an access terminal within a wireless communication network. In some examples, the access terminal retrieves system information from its current serving cell and stores the retrieved system information in memory along with an associated timestamp. Over time, as the access terminal moves about the network, it can accumulate this system information for a plurality of base stations within its memory. By utilizing the system information for a plurality of base stations rather than only the current serving base station, as well as the associated timestamps, additional position information can be provided to the access terminal. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described.Type: GrantFiled: August 30, 2012Date of Patent: June 30, 2015Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Jyothi Jayanthi, Ashutosh S. Zade, Thomas K. Rowland, William Peckham, Han C. Suh

Patent number: 8700049Abstract: The subject matter disclosed herein relates to a system and method for reducing an initial position uncertainty of a mobile station. In one example, although claimed subject matter is not so limited, a process to improve an initial position estimate comprises identifying the locations of a serving cell and at least one other landmark proximate to a receiver and determining an initial estimate of the location of the receiver based, at least in part, on the identified locations of the serving cell and the at least one other landmark.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 2008Date of Patent: April 15, 2014Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventors: Marc Ische, Lalitaprasad V. Daita, Thomas K. Rowland

Patent number: 7251467Abstract: Systems and techniques are disclosed relating to wireless communications. These systems and techniques involve wireless communications wherein a device may be configured to recover an information signal from a carrier using a reference signal, detect a frequency error in the information signal; and periodically tune the reference signal to reduce the frequency error.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 2003Date of Patent: July 31, 2007Assignee: Qualcomm IncorporatedInventors: Andrew Sendonaris, Da-shan Shiu, Dominic Gerard Farmer, Jeremy H. Lin, Parvathanathan Subrahmanya, Thomas K. Rowland

Patent number: 6088802Abstract: The invention enables a peripheral device to communicate with a host computing device to enable one or more security operations to be performed by the peripheral device on data stored within the host computing device, data provided from the host computing device to the peripheral device (which can then be, for example, stored in the peripheral device or transmitted to yet another device), or data retrieved by the host computing device from the peripheral device (e.g., data that has been stored in the peripheral device, transmitted to the peripheral device from another device or input to the peripheral device by a person). In particular, the peripheral device can be adapted to enable, in a single integral peripheral device, performance of one or more security operations on data, and a defined interaction with a host computing device that has not previously been integrated with security operations in a single integral device. The defined interactions can provide a variety of types of functionality (e.g.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1997Date of Patent: July 11, 2000Assignee: Spyrus, Inc.Inventors: William P. Bialick, Mark J. Patent number: 6003135Abstract: The invention enables a modular, typically portable, device to communicate with a host computing device to enable one or more security operations to be performed by the modular device on data stored within the host computing device, data provided from the host computing device to the modular device (which can then be, for example, stored in the modular device or transmitted to yet another device), or data retrieved by the host computing device from the modular device (e.g., data that has been stored in the modular device, transmitted to the modular device from another device or input to the modular device by a person). In particular, the modular device can include a security module that is adapted to enable performance of one or more security operations on data, and a target module that is adapted to enable a defined interaction with a host computing device. The target module can be embodied by any of a variety of modules having different types of functionality (e.g.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1997Date of Patent: December 14, 1999Assignee: Spyrus, Inc.Inventors: William P.
