Patent number: 8763445Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to detecting leaks in a fluid cooling system. One aspect of the present invention concerns an apparatus for detecting leaks in a fluid cooling system that includes a pressure exerting device for applying a pressure on a supply hose and a return hose of the cooling system, and a pressure gauge coupled to the pressure exerting device for detecting a drop of fluid pressure in the cooling system while the pressure is applied. The drop of fluid pressure indicates that there may be a leak in the cooling system.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 2011Date of Patent: July 1, 2014Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: John A. Fitzsimmons, Thomas A. Kline, Patrick F. White

Publication number: 20070031101Abstract: A rigid casing provides support and protection for two separate fiber optic jumper cables of a fiber optic test set and which may be wound on two separate spools for extension and retraction relative to the casing. A selected length of one of the cables may be extended from the casing and connected to a part of a fiber optic circuit to be tested, following which a selected length of the other cable may be extended from the casing and connected to another part of the circuit. The spools are capable of rotation about a common axis with and relative to one another. The cables have confronting ends at the axis of rotation of the spools and in axial alignment so that light energy emitted from either cable may be received by the other without interruption.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 8, 2005Publication date: February 8, 2007Inventors: James Kline, Thomas Kline, Dustin Sene

Publication number: 20060210230Abstract: Storage and dispensing apparatus for use with a unitary length of coilable fiber optic cable having a minimum bending radius, such apparatus having a casing within which is journaled a rotatable spool having two grooves in which relatively long and relatively short lengths of the cable may be coiled. One end of the cable is coupled to a connector that is releasably retained on the spool for rotation therewith. The opposite end of the cable is joined to a connector which is extendible from and retractable into the casing in which the spool is journaled. The casing is formed of rigid plastic material which protects the cable against damage from externally applied forces. No part of the cable within the casing is subject to being bent about a radius less than the minimum bending radius.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 16, 2005Publication date: September 21, 2006Inventors: James Kline, Thomas Kline, Dustin Sene

Publication number: 20060110119Abstract: A protective carrier for a fiber optic cable comprises a casing within which is a rotor rotatable in a selected one of two opposite directions. The rotor supports the cable at the axis of rotation of the rotor and the cable extends in opposite directions from such axis and is guided to axially spaced peripheral grooves in which a major portion of the retracted cable is accommodated. From each of the grooves opposite ends of the cable extend through openings in the casing and are coupled to terminations by means of which the cable may be connected to terminals. The openings into the casing accommodate and shield the connectors. The casing is sufficiently rigid to protect the cable and terminations from damage. The path of movement of the cable into and out of the casing is such that the cable is not subjected to kinking or bending in such manner as to damage the cable or attenuate the signal carried by the cable.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 17, 2005Publication date: May 25, 2006Inventors: James Kline, Thomas Kline, Dustin Sene

Patent number: 6360908Abstract: A unitary, plastic, snap-on overcap for providing a tamper-evident capability to a closure assembly of a container includes a cap, a removable skirt, and a plurality of spaced-apart frangible elements which connect the removable skirt to the cap. The closure assembly includes an internally-threaded fitting which is anchored into the container and an externally-threaded closing plug which is installed into the fitting. The cap portion of the overcap includes a depending sidewall which terminates in a snap-on lip portion. The removable skirt includes a wall portion which is constructed and arranged to be positioned in close proximity to an upper surface of the container when the cap is snapped onto the closure assembly. The actual snap-on engagement of the cap to the closure assembly involves engagement by the lip portion with a cooperating edge of the closure assembly. In order to gain access to an edge of the cap in order to pry the cap off of the closure assembly, the skirt must be removed.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 1999Date of Patent: March 26, 2002Assignee: Rieke CorporationInventor: Thomas A. Kline

Patent number: 6237818Abstract: A flexible pouring spout for material containers incorporating a tamper evident ring having a nested flexible spout capable of being selectively moved between a nested position and an extended position, a cap threadedly attached to the spout, a tamper-evident ring attached to the cap by a plurality of frangible elements, and a metal ring for attaching the closure to the container. The metal ring is secured over the peripheral flange of the spout and over the tamper-evident ring, preventing the closure from being removed or the spout from being extended without detection. A flexible bail handle is attached to the cap member to facilitate extending the spout member and removing the cap. For additional tamper evidence, an internal diaphragm is used to seal off the spout until the closure is opened and the diaphragm removed.Type: GrantFiled: January 19, 2000Date of Patent: May 29, 2001Assignee: Rieke CorporationInventor: Thomas A. Kline

Patent number: 5478420Abstract: A multilayer ceramic substrate with an internal cavity extending from the top to the bottom surface of the substrate is produced using an insert material which fits within a cavity defined by aligned openings of individual ceramic sheets in a multilayer stack. The multilayer stack of ceramic sheets, together with the insert, is press-molded together with the insert serving as an internal mold that maintains the internal dimensions of the cavity. The insert is slightly larger in its top to bottom dimension than the multilayer stack and is driven into a compressible material underlying the multilayer stack during the pressing operation. The insert prevents the ceramic from flowing upwards into the center of the cavity during the pressing operation. In addition, the insert embeds electrically conductive pads located at various levels inside the cavity on individual ceramic sheets in the multilayer stack into the top surfaces of the ceramic sheets.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 1994Date of Patent: December 26, 1995Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: John P. Gauci, Thomas A. Kline
