  • Patent number: 4757150
Abstract: Polyetherimide bisphenols and bischloroformates are prepared by the reaction of dianhydrides or certain bisimides with aminophenols or mixtures thereof with diamines. They are useful as intermediates for the preparation of cyclic heterocarbonates, which may in turn be converted to linear copolycarbonates. The bisphenols can also be converted to salts which react with cyclic polycarbonate oligomers to form block copolyetherimidecarbonates.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 31, 1986
Date of Patent: July 12, 1988
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Thomas L. Guggenheim, Joseph W. Guiles, John W. Verbicky, Jr.
  • Patent number: 4714780
Abstract: Thiobisphenols, such as 2,2-bis[2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)propane]-sulfide are provided by effecting reaction betwen a dihydric phenol such as bisphenol-A and sulfur dichloride in the presence of an effective amount of a Lewis acid catalyst and organic solvent.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 3, 1986
Date of Patent: December 22, 1987
    Assignee: General Electric Company
    Inventor: Thomas L. Guggenheim
