  • Patent number: 5193179
Abstract: An activity monitor for monitoring activity on a bus connecting a plurality of processors, monitors the bus to determine the bus master and other bus activities. In response thereto, predetermined memory locations are enabled to count events on the bus or calculate time spans for various bus activities.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 5, 1991
Date of Patent: March 9, 1993
    Assignee: Harris Corporation
Inventors: Maria Laprade, Thomas L. Sterling
  • Patent number: 5047919
Abstract: A software monitor for analyzing the running of a software program. The software monitor is a hardware device including registers and control devices that interacts with the software program running on the monitored computer or multi-processor. Through commands placed in the running software, the software monitor is able to monitor various parameters related to the running of the software program. These parameters include the number of times each segment of the program has been entered, the number of times an interrupt was received during the running of each segment, and the total time spent by the program in each segment.

Date of Patent: September 10, 1991
    Assignee: Harris Corporation
Inventors: Thomas L. Sterling, Donald J. Becker
  • Patent number: 4964042
Abstract: An associative architecture for a static data flow processing system comprises a functional computation unit in which data processing operations are executed, a data processing execution control structure (template) storage and control unit and communication channels through which the functional computation unit and the template storage and control unit communicate with one another. The template storage and control unit controls the supply of data to be processed by the functional computation unit and includes memory for storing a plurality of templates. Each template storage and control unit assembles data processing messages for application to a first of the communication channels for controlling the execution of a data processing operation by the functional computation unit.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: October 16, 1990
    Assignee: Harris Corporation
Inventors: Thomas L. Sterling, Ellery Y. Chan
  • Patent number: 4872121
Abstract: A system activity monitor for monitoring the performance of an electronic apparatus, e.g., a computer. The system activity monitor includes a plurality of data acquisition modules that are connected to the monitored system as desired. The actual connection is made via a customizing board that provides the necessary flexibility so that the system activity monitor can be connected at any desired location of the monitored computer system. An event board of the system activity monitor detects the occurrence of predetermined events. An event occurs when a predetermined sequence of signals occurs within the monitored system; the sequence is determined by the user. When an event is detected an accumulator board of the system activity monitor accumulates performance data of the monitored system.

  • Patent number: 4608700
Abstract: A digital data link for communication between distributed components including at least two serial paths, a data path and a control path, and a port associated with each component, the ports serving to arbitrate link access requests, permit dialog with minimal addressing between components and promote effective utilization of the data path bandwidth.

Inventors: James L. Kirtley, Jr., Thomas L. Sterling, Ronald D. Williams
  • Patent number: 4317175
Abstract: A dynamic rate integrating demand monitor which measures electric power to a customer load at closely-spaced time intervals and prices that load at each such interval on the basis of a predetermined set of factors.
