    Abstract: The present invention relates to a polypeptide and derivatives thereof deduced from the native structure of non-erythroid alpha spectrin and compositions thereof. One embodiment of the invention is 24 amino acids in length and composed of the following linear sequence of residues: Lys-Thr-Ala-Ser-Pro-Trp-Lys-Ser-Ala-Arg-Leu- Met-Val-His-Thr-Val-Ala-Thr-Phe-Asn-Ser-Ile-Lys-Glu. The invention further relates to methods of using the polypeptide, such as methods for treating disorders including prophylaxis against organ and tissue transplant rejection or treatment of autoimmune disorders.
