  • Publication number: 20070244398
Abstract: A heart rate monitor implements power saving algorithms while monitoring a subject's heart rate. The monitor continuously monitors a subject during an initial period to determine an initial heart rate. After the initial heart rate is acquired, power may not be provided for portions of the monitor until a heart beat is expected to occur. At some point before the expected heart beat occurs, power is returned to the components which have not received power. The expected heart beat is then detected, and power to selected portions of the monitor is terminated again until another expected heart beat approaches in time. By providing power to monitor components just before an expected heart beat, the monitor may still detect the heart beat and determine the corresponding heart rate of the user. The period of time during which power is terminated for some components may be determined from the detected heart rate. The number of heart beats during which power is terminated for selected monitor components may vary.

  • Publication number: 20070016053
Abstract: An ultrasonic monitor implemented on a PCB includes a transmission medium. The transmission medium may be biocompatible and include an adhesive member, an oil-based transmission medium, a gel pad, or a combination thereof. Ultrasonic signals are transmitted between the ultrasonic monitor and a living subject through the transmission medium. An air gap is formed in the PCB underneath transducer elements to provide for more efficient signal transmission. The entire ultrasonic monitor may be encapsulated in plastic, a transmission medium, or both to provide water resistant properties.

  • Publication number: 20060106310
Abstract: An ultrasonic monitor implemented on a PCB includes a gel pad comprised of a gel layer and a membrane layer. Ultrasonic signals are transmitted between the ultrasonic monitor and a living subject through the gel pad. An air gap is formed in the PCB underneath transducer elements to provide for more efficient signal transmission. These features provide for a low power, low cost, more efficient ultrasonic monitor. The entire ultrasonic monitor may be encapsulated in plastic, a gel, or both to provide water resistant properties.

  • Publication number: 20050271248
Abstract: A generalized Hough transform is used to acquire and track vehicular targets for missile guidance. This is accomplished by recognizing that most vehicles have silhouettes that may be described as a “rounded rectangle”. The position and shape of such rounded rectangles is described in terms of 5 parameters (xc, yc, a, b, ?) where xc, yc are the center coordinates, a,b are the major and minor axis and ? is the orientation. The computation of a five dimensional Hough transform on an image including such a target will produce the five parameters that provide the “best fit” rounded rectangle to the target. These parameters are then passed to a missile tracker. This capability can be used to improve track gate handoff from the automatic target recognizer (ATR) to the missile tracker, changing aspect ratios of maneuvering targets, limited lock-on after launch (LOAL), aimpoint designation and fire control system to missile seeker handover.

  • Patent number: 5809505
Abstract: A relational to object mapping system and method permit the transfer and translation of data between a database server having a relational database and an object-oriented apparatus. The object code, such as C++, is translated by a generator object into suitable relational database statements, such as structured query language (SQL). The SQL statement is passed to a query object which executes the statement. In executing the SQL statement, the query object accesses an environment object which supplies the query object with appropriate connection objects for establishing a link between the query object and the database server. The database server supplies the requested data from the relational database to the query object which then stores the data in a storage buffer. The object-oriented apparatus can then access the data from the storage buffer. The query object may activate a transaction object for processing the data before the data is accessed by the object-oriented apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5528480
Abstract: A power supply for producing a regulated dc output from an ac primary input incorporates a convention rectifying and filtering circuitry feeding a switching circuit for providing a high frequency, substantially rectangular voltage waveform to a high frequency transformer. The output of the transformer is provided to a synchronous buck converter having a grounded line and an ungrounded line, with a first FET switch in the ungrounded line and a second FET switch connected from the output of the first FET switch to the grounded line. A controller in the synchronous buck converter switches the FETs according to the input voltage waveform to achieve rectification. In another aspect, two FETs are placed in opposite polarity in the ungrounded line and switched together, and the controller also alters the duty cycle of the switching in accordance with the magnitude of a regulated output produced from the output of the synchronous buck converter, to achieve precise regulation.
