Patent number: 9301397Abstract: Metalized web substrate is wet etched in a reaction vessel by contacting with oxidizing and metal complexing agent to remove metal from unpatterned region. Following etching, substrate is rinsed, and rinse is at least partly recycled. Concentrations of oxidizing and metal complexing agents in the etchant bath are maintained by delivering replenishment feeds of each. Concentration of metal in the etchant bath is maintained by discharging some of the etchant bath. Replenishment rates of oxidizing and metal complexing agents and etchant removal rate are determined based at least in part on rate that metal etched from the substrate enters the etchant bath.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 2012Date of Patent: March 29, 2016Assignee: 3M INNOVATIVE PROPERTIES COMPANYInventors: Jeffrey H. Tokie, Joseph W. Woody, V, Thomas M. Lynch, Daniel M. Lentz, Robert S. Davidson, Cristin E. Moran, Lijun Zu

Method and apparatus for generating tests for structures expressed as extended finite state machines
Patent number: 5394347Abstract: A method for generating test programs for an implementation of a specification that has been modeled as an extended finite state machine (EFSM), the EFSM including vertices and transitions, where the transitions represent functions to be performed by the implementation, including predicates and actions such as variable assignments. The method includes traversing the EFSM in a depth-first manner from a root model start state to a root model exit state, through intermediate vertices which may be normal states or models. Models include further vertices and transitions, and may be called as submodels or as go-to models, where a go-to model includes an EFSM exit state. The EFSM may be traversed exhaustively, such that all possible paths are traversed, or in a partial transition coverage mode, where a user-defined subset of the possible paths are traversed.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 1993Date of Patent: February 28, 1995Assignee: Digital Equipment CorporationInventors: Ronald A. Kita, Sylvia C. Tremblay, Thomas M. Lynch -
Patent number: 5132329Abstract: A process for preparing a flexible, low density, integral skin polyurethane foam wherein water is used as the sole blowing and density controlling agent. The process entails reacting an isocyanate component with a compound containing isocyanate reactive groups and further containing ether linkages, a polyurethane promoting catalyst, an alcohol, a surfactant, a chain extender and optional additives. The reaction is carried out at molded densities of from 15 pcf to 30 pcf in molds preheated to about 90.degree. F. to about 130.degree. F.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 1990Date of Patent: July 21, 1992Assignee: BASF CorporationInventors: Thomas M. Lynch, Richard P. Harrison

Patent number: 5018818Abstract: A connector employs a glass sleeve having a ceramic ferrule fixed in one end and containing an optical fiber having its presentation end factory ground. The opposite end of the glass sleeve is formed to receive a fiber during a field installation. The middle portion of the sleeve contains an elastomeric pair which receives the ends of the fibers.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 1990Date of Patent: May 28, 1991Assignee: GTE Products CorporationInventors: Robert W. Barlow, Robert W. Boucher, Thomas M. Lynch

Patent number: 5005942Abstract: A fiber optic splicing system for accommodating optical fibers having similar or distinctly different buffered coating sizes. The system comprises a first pair of housing halves forming a body with opposed ends adapted to receive two optical fiber of a first similar size; a second pair of housing halves forming a body with opposed ends adapted to receive two optical fibers of a second similar size, different from said first size; and a third pair of housing halves forming a body having one end formed to receive one of said first size of optical fiber and another end formed to receive one of said second, different size of optical fiber. Holding means in the form of slidable end caps cooperate with the ends of the housing to apply radial compression thereto to maintain the fibers in position without the use of crimps or adhesives. A center portion of the halves can be formed to accept elastic means for receiving fibers or, alternatively, a hollow sleeve which includes the elastic means therein.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 1989Date of Patent: April 9, 1991Assignee: GTE Products CorporationInventors: Robert W. Barlow, Thomas M. Lynch, Steven E. Swanson

Patent number: 4913510Abstract: A lens for an optical fiber is formed on the end of a capillary glass tube which is then fitted over an optical fiber. The lens can be formed by mounting a capillary tube in a spindle, and rotating and heating the end of the tube until centrifugal force forms the lens as a bulbous portion.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 1989Date of Patent: April 3, 1990Assignee: GTE Products CorporationInventors: Thomas M. Patent number: 4900269Abstract: A connector housing for use with a flex board having openings therethrough completely surrounded by the flex board surface. The housing includes a top portion which pivots to open and closed positions relative to a bottom portion. Ribs extend from the bottom portion for flex board alignment and ribs extend from the top portion which interdigitate with the bottom ribs and cause the conductors on the flex board to be electrically coupled to respective contacts of the connector housing.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 1988Date of Patent: February 13, 1990Assignee: GTE Products CorporationInventor: Thomas M.
