    Abstract: A total variance may be computed for sample values in an input gesture including a plurality of sample values of sample motion data from one or more sensors associated with a control device. The motion data may be related to movement of a control device. A figure of merit may be calculated using the sample values in the gesture, the total variance for the sample values in the input gesture, and sample values in one or more catalog gestures. The figure of merit measures how well the samples in the input gesture match samples in the catalog gesture. Whether an input gesture matches one of the one or more catalog gesture may be determined based on the figure of merit. A state of the system may be changed if it is determined that the input gesture matches the one of the one or more catalog gestures.

    Abstract: A process for mitigation of fouling deposits within a combustion zone, capturing of toxic metal emissions, and reduction of visible sulfur emissions attributable to sulfuric acid mist during coal combustion. SO3 formed during coal combustion is reduced by the addition to the coal of raw, unprocessed magnesium-containing minerals such as magnesite ore or brucite ore. The minerals are pulverized to a fine particle size and combined with pulverized coal to provide a mixture of the particles. The mixture is combusted and the ore particles calcine and decrepitate to very fine magnesium oxide particles that have a significant particle surface area. The magnesium oxide particles react with the SO3 produced during combustion of the coal and also capture toxic metals to reduce the quantity of undesirable stack discharge components.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for securing upholstery or some other fabric to a seat having a frame, such as an automobile seat. The apparatus includes an elongated web of material having a cord incorporated therein which extends in the direction of elongation of the web. The cord may be extracted at various points along the length of the web. Hooks are provided on the seat, typically on the underside thereof, to which the web is attached. The web may be either elastic or nonelastic, and the cord may be either elastic or nonelastic. Non-elastic cord is used, an extra length of cord may be incorporated into the web. The web may be knitted, woven or braided. In the method of this invention, a web with an incorporated cord is secured to an edge of the upholstery which is desired to be secured to a seat. The cord is extracted from the web at preselected points and attached to a fastening device. The length of cord provided in the web is sufficient to allow fastening, but also still holds the upholstery tightly in place.

    Abstract: A method for treating and resolving a phosphorus containing oily waste emulsion is described. The treatment uses an emulsion destabilizing cationic polymer of low molecular weight in combination with filter aids to form a coacervate slurry. The coacervate slurry can be optionally treated with either high molecular weight anionic or cationic coagulents, or combination thereof. The suspended solids formed by the above treatments are removed from the slurries and wasted or discarded or incinerated. The remaining liquids may be recycled, reused, or treated as effluent meeting environmental standards.

    Abstract: An anchor system including a C-track and a two-pronged anchor capable of installing and holding sheet insulation material on a support surface in a compressed state is described. The method of installation utilizing the anchor system of the present invention provides for both the attachment of the insulation to the support surface and compression of the insulation during a single installation operation. The method involves forming a plurality of folds with the sheet insulation to a desired height followed by the insertion of one prong of the two-pronged anchor through the folds to compress the folds and hold the folds in position. The second prong of the anchor initially serves to aid in the compression of the folds and secondarily serves to connect the compressed insulation to a next layer of folds formed and stacked on top of the already formed folds. The use of a separate attachment means with each fold of the insulation material is not required.

    Abstract: A module of the type used in insulating the wall of a high-temperature furnace comprising a planar face, a hub joined and extending rearwardly from substantially the mid-point of the surface opposite the planar face, and a plurality of radial members extending outwardly from the hub is described. Preferably the entire module is integral. The module can be used in combination with an attachment which fits over the hub for attaching the module to a furnace wall. Blanketing material can be used with the module to vary the heat-insulating characteristics of the module. The module, which is easily attached to a furnace wall, can be cut along any of its edges without varying the heat-insulating characteristics of the module, permitting the installation of the modules on a furnace wall without substantial pre-engineering.
