  • Patent number: 8495854
Abstract: A closure cap that is particularly suited for use with plastic containers in packaging malt based beverages such as beer and ale includes an upper portion and a generally cylindrical sidewall that depends downwardly from the upper portion. The cylindrical sidewall defines a threaded inner surface, which permits the closure cap to be threaded onto a threaded finish portion of a container. Most advantageously, the outer surface of the cylindrical sidewall is stylized to resemble a conventional crown closure. In the disclosed embodiment this is accomplished by molding a plurality of fluted ribs into the outer surface of the cylindrical sidewall. A method of packaging a beverage and a packaging assembly is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7637384
Abstract: A container assembly includes a container that has an externally threaded finish portion as well as retention structure for preventing upward movement of a tamper evident band. The container assembly further includes a closure having a body portion of a base and an internally threaded downwardly depending sidewall portion that is sized and shaped to screw onto the finish portion of the container. The closure further includes a tamper evident band that is frangibly connected to the sidewall portion and that includes a main band portion and a J-hook retention member. The J-hook retention member includes a plurality of pleated retaining flaps, each of which has upper portion for engaging the retention structure.

  • Patent number: 6782592
Abstract: A system for pressure molding plastic material includes a source of hot flowable plastic material and a manifold for receiving hot flowable plastic material from the source and for transporting the hot flowable plastic material to a nozzle that is disposed within a nozzle cavity. A heater is provided to heat the nozzle and is positioned outside of, but close to, the nozzle cavity and includes at least one electrical supply wire. A shut-off seal is positioned within the nozzle cavity to seal the nozzle with respect to the wall defining the shut-off cavity. In addition, a secondary seal is most advantageously positioned between the shut-off seal and the heater for ensuring that any hot flowable plastic material that might leak through the shut-off seal does not come into contact with the electrical supply wire. This has been found to increase the reliability and operating life of conventional pressure molding systems.

  • Patent number: 5884790
Abstract: A self-braking closure cap for a container, such as a soft drink container, of the type that has a threaded finish portion with at least one raised thread defined thereon includes a top wall portion and a side wall portion having a substantially cylindrical inner surface. The inner surface has at least one raised helically oriented thread defined thereon that has a predetermined pitch. Advantageously, a restrictor is provided for frictionally resisting unscrewing of the closure cap from a container finish portion by bearing primarily against one side of one of the raised threads of the finish portion. Since the braking is achieved by frictional engagement having a significant axial force component, instead of a radial force component, braking can be achieved with a minimum of radial force being exerted on the closure. This preserves the stripping torque value of the closure at an acceptable level without the need to add additional material to reinforce the closure against deformation.
