  • Publication number: 20180283242
Abstract: A variable valve gear for an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle has a cam carrier which is arranged on a camshaft in a manner which prevents relative rotation and allows axial movement between a first axial position and a second axial position and has a first cam and a second cam. The first cam is designed for a normal mode of the internal combustion engine, in which the first cam keeps a first exhaust valve open in the exhaust stroke. The second cam is designed for an engine braking mode of the internal combustion engine, in which the second cam initially keeps the first exhaust valve closed in the compression stroke and/or in the exhaust stroke and opens the first exhaust valve before reaching a top dead center of a piston movement.

  • Publication number: 20180066553
Abstract: A drive device for a vehicle with and an exhaust gas tract connected to engine. The exhaust gas tract has a main line with an exhaust gas turbine of a turbocharger and a catalytic convertor downstream of the turbine. The exhaust gas tract has a bypass, by which at least some of the is conductible past a turbine wheel of the turbine such that the exhaust gas is conductible out of the main line at at least one a conducting-out region into the bypass line upstream of the turbine wheel. The bypass exhaust gas flow in the bypass line is conductible into the main line at downstream of the turbine wheel (41) and upstream of the catalytic convertor. To prevent overheating of the catalytic convertor, a cooling device is provided, by which the bypass exhaust gas flow flowing through the bypass line is coolable.

  • Patent number: 9897026
Abstract: An operating method for a device that has an internal combustion engine having a crankshaft and a plurality of cylinders and an exhaust gas aftertreatment system. The operating method is distinguished, in particular, by the fact that fuel injection into at least one of the cylinders is shut down when required and the at least one shut-down cylinder is put into a braking mode, with the result that the temperature of the exhaust gas for the exhaust gas aftertreatment system can be increased.

  • Patent number: 9863529
Abstract: A method for controlling a shift process of an automatic gearbox for a vehicle with an internal combustion engine as its engine, including specifying a shift strategy in a controller, by continuously predictively determining the behaviour of the engine following any shift process into a target gear on the basis of a current detected vehicle dynamic value, a current detected vehicle specific actual value, and/or a current detected engine specific actual value. The prediction results are taken into account and adapted shift thresholds are determined and specified as upshift thresholds or downshift thresholds for a fuel efficient shift. A control command for a corresponding automatic shift process is output after exceeding a shift threshold. The current temperature of at least one component of the engine exhaust system is taken into account during the specification of an adapted shift threshold.

  • Publication number: 20170241373
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a piston for a reciprocating-piston internal combustion engine, comprising a piston head and a piston barrel, wherein the piston head has an encircling ring belt with at least one ring groove for a piston ring and has, in the region of the ring belt, an encircling cooling duct. The cooling duct extends from the ring belt as far as a wall of the piston barrel in order to increase an oil film temperature of the oil film in the cylinder liner between the piston barrel and cylinder and to thereby reduce the piston barrel friction.

  • Publication number: 20170114734
Abstract: A method for operating an internal combustion engine using an external exhaust-gas recirculation device with a recirculation setting device to set the flow rate of the recirculated exhaust gas and using a closing time setting device to adjust the closing time of the at least one inlet valve of the internal combustion engine. For the reduction of nitrogen oxides emitted by the internal combustion engine, it is possible, by way of the closing time setting device, for a nitrogen oxide reduction cycle to be set in which the at least one inlet valve of the internal combustion engine closes earlier or later than in the basic cycle.

  • Publication number: 20150142405
Abstract: A method for simulating the operation of an internal combustion engine, using a single-cylinder test bench device, and a data-processing device executing an engine simulation model which simulates a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine. The engine simulation model determines a simulation value of at least one simulation variable, to be simulated, of the multi-cylinder internal combustion engine, in particular air mass flow and/or exhaust gas recirculation rate on the basis of at least one test bench. operating value, in particular indicated mean pressure and/or exhaust gas temperature, which is detected at a defined test bench operating point of the single-cylinder test bench device by means of a measuring device and fed to the data-processing device.
