  • Patent number: 5726640
Abstract: A paging controller (10) schedules the transmission of pages of different protocol types, dynamically, taking into account both the airtime efficiency of transmitting a page of a particular protocol type and the fairness of transmitting pages of that protocol type. The paging controller (10) determines the efficiency of transmitting stored pages for each protocol type based upon the number of code words stored for the pages of the protocol type in a paging queue (27-30) and based upon the delay, if any, that is expected to be encountered in changing to the protocol type. The paging controller (10) determines the fairness of transmitting pages of a particular protocol type based upon the age of the pages of the protocol type that are stored in the paging queue (27-30).

  • Patent number: 5703479
Abstract: A method and apparatus for testing of a unit under test (50) by a communication system tester performs loopback tests. During these loopback tests, data transmitted by the unit under test may be stored (21) and sent back to the unit under test. In addition, user defined prestored data (22) may be transmitted to the unit under test. Further, prestored messages (24) and tones (23) may be stored by the communication system tester and transmitted to the unit under test for display on a speaker. An operator (52) may review the output of the speaker and determine whether the test has been properly passed. As a result, the operator may determine whether a fault exits in the receiver or transmitter of the unit under test.

  • Patent number: 5657357
Abstract: A communication system (100) for providing duplicate messages includes a plurality of receivers for receiving a radio signal, the plurality of receivers including time diversity (110) and non-time diversity receivers (115). A message transmission device (105) within the communication system (100) transmits the radio signal. The radio signal includes a first frame of data, which includes first portions in which first information for reception by at least one time diversity receiver (110) is queued and second portions which are remaining after queuing of the first information. The second portions are queued with second information for reception by at least one non-time diversity receiver (115). The first portions are of a non-predetermined size that varies according to the amount of the first information.
