Publication number: 20220112764Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure include a bottom rail for a double panel window shading having opposing first and second panels coupled by a plurality of vanes. The bottom rail may include a body, a first connection point on the body coupled to the first panel, and a second connection point on the body coupled to the second panel. A weight distribution of the body may cause a center of gravity of the bottom rail to be on a side of a plane through the first connection point and the second connection point opposing the body. The bottom rail is adjustable between an open position in which the first and second connection points exert downward tensile force on the respective panels, and a closed position in which the first connection point solely exerts downward tensile force on the first panel without the second connection point exerting downward tensile force on the second panel.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 4, 2020Publication date: April 14, 2022Inventors: Richard D. Watkins, Thomas Marusak

Patent number: 9297202Abstract: A shutter-blind system for windows is provided. The system includes a plurality of rotatable parallel louvers. Each louver is rotatable about an axis offset from its center of gravity. The system further includes a resisting member coupled to a louver located at a lower end of the plurality of louvers, the center of gravity of the louvers with the offset axis pulling against the resisting member to maintain tension in the collapsible linkages. All of the louvers of the plurality of louvers are rotated in a substantially matched rotation in response to rotation of the lower louver. All of the louvers are held in position in response to the force of gravity on the offset louvers acting against the resisting member.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 2014Date of Patent: March 29, 2016Assignee: Comfortex CorporationInventors: Richard Watkins, Jason Vandervoort, John Corey, Thomas Marusak

Patent number: 9027628Abstract: A shutter-blind system for windows is provided. The system includes a frame and a plurality of rotatable parallel louvers coupled within the frame. Each louver of the plurality of louvers is operatively coupled to adjacent louvers with a collapsible linkage. The system may further comprise a biasing member coupled to a first louver located at a first end of the plurality of louvers and a resisting member coupled to a second louver located at a second end of the plurality of louvers. The biasing member pulls against the resisting member to maintain tension in the collapsible linkage. According to certain embodiments, the frame elements are coupled within a window opening and trim elements are coupled to cover gaps between the frame elements and the window opening.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 2012Date of Patent: May 12, 2015Assignee: Comfortex CorporationInventors: Richard Watkins, Jason Vandervoort, John Corey, Mark Kitterman, Thomas Marusak

Patent number: 6112800Abstract: A safety clutch is provided for operating a window treatment having a headrail, a bottomrail and a window covering material extending therebetween. The safety clutch is mounted on a movable frame within the headrail and is moved to rotatably engage the tube lift cord spool on which lift cords are wound and unwound to raise and lower the bottomrail. A brake mechanism connected to the headrail prevents rotating of the tube lift cord spool, and the brake is automatically disengaged upon operation of the safety clutch. A single pull cord is used to operate the safety clutch and the pull cord is maintained in a raised location when not in use.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 1998Date of Patent: September 5, 2000Assignee: Comfortex Window FashionsInventor: Thomas Marusak

Patent number: 4307997Abstract: A free piston inertia compressor comprises a piston assembly including a connecting rod having pistons on both ends, the cylinder being split into two substantially identical portions by a seal through which the connecting rod passes. Vents in the cylinder wall are provided near the seal to permit gas to excape the cylinder until the piston covers the vent whereupon the remaining gas in the cylinder functions as a gas spring and cushions the piston against impact on the seal. The connecting rod has a central portion of relatively small diameter providing free play of the connecting rod through the seal and end portions of relatively large diameter providing a limited tolerance between the connecting rod and the seal. Finally, the seal comprises a seal ring assembly consisting of a dampener plate, a free floating seal at the center of the dampener plate and a seal retainer plate in one face of the dampener plate.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 1979Date of Patent: December 29, 1981Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the United States Department of EnergyInventors: William D.
