  • Patent number: 9207146
Abstract: A method monitors an electromagnetic hydraulic valve for controlling a hydraulically adjustable valve gear of a reciprocating piston engine. The hydraulic valve includes an electromagnetic coil and a moving armature configured to connect a control port hydraulically to a high-pressure port or a low-pressure port, depending on an energization of the coil. The method includes detecting a movement of the armature, using a control unit, in response to an energization of the coil based on a mutual induction in the coil and identifying a defect, using the control unit, if the expected mutual induction does not occur.

  • Patent number: 9116075
Abstract: A method for checking a function of an outlet valve of an internal combustion engine includes sensing an exhaust gas pressure in an exhaust section of the internal combustion engine. The sensed exhaust gas pressure is compared with a comparison value so as to provide a comparison result and the function of the outlet valve is evaluated as a function of the comparison result.

  • Patent number: 7467042
Abstract: A method assesses the functional capability of a gas exchange valve lift adjuster of an internal combustion engine as a function of a measure of rotational oscillation amplitudes of a camshaft. The measure of the rotational oscillation amplitudes is formed repeatedly. In a situation in which the gas exchange valve lift adjuster is to change the valve lift, it is checked whether a change in the measure of the rotational oscillation amplitudes occurs. The gas exchange valve lift adjuster is assessed as being functional if a measure for the change is greater than a predetermined threshold value. A control unit is programmed to perform such steps.

  • Patent number: 7308355
Abstract: In a method for diagnosing a charge cycle valve stroke adjusting system of an internal-combustion engine having at least one exhaust gas sensor which supplies an output signal continuously varying with an exhaust gas constituent, the spread width of the output signal is determined, and compared with a reference value. Defects of the valve stroke adjusting system are detected on the basis of the comparison.

  • Patent number: 7269501
Abstract: A method and device for monitoring the functionality of a valve stroke adjusting device of an internal combustion engine in a cold start phase. The internal combustion engine includes an electronically controllable throttle, the control utilizing an integral component to control the throttle, and the functionality is monitored by determining the integral component in a cold start phase, comparing the integral component with at least one predetermined threshold value and evaluating the functionality of the valve stroke adjusting device on the basis of the comparison.
