  • Publication number: 20060271291
Abstract: The present invention provides a new set of algorithmic solutions to accommodate track inaccuracy information in track databases. Navigation and measurement aiding processes are defined by a stochastic mode relative to a moving rail frame defined so that it is aligned with the heading of the compensated track database at the current along track-position. Filtering generates long and short wavelength track alignment disturbances commensurate with track grade to compensate for track database errors; a stochastic error model is defined as the difference between the deterministic implementation and the actual stochastic processes Bayesian estimation of the error variables is implemented via a digital Kalman filter with the navigation, database, and measurement errors removed by subtracting the filter estimates.

  • Publication number: 20060266466
Abstract: This invention proposes a new, improved method and apparatus for applying web segments to a traveling web. Ears, or wings, are placed on a running web of disposable diapers. Because these webs are often asymmetrical or otherwise incompatible with the principle of slipping over the surface of a moving vacuum roll, the webs may float from side to side or otherwise be drawn out of square by asymmetrical forces. A vacuum groove is provided on a vacuum roll to counter these effects. Alternatively, a ridge with vacuum about the ridge is provided, also to pull a machine direction line of material into the groove or over the ridge, thereby giving the web some degree of cross-directional stability.

  • Publication number: 20060239500
Abstract: A novel technique for embedding a reversible watermark into digital media files, and then removing this watermark, in whole or in part, at some later date, without access to the original media file, which may consist of such media types as audio, image, video, 3-D and the like; such watermarks being primarily intended for, though not limited to, the introduction by a reversible mathematical operation of perceptually significant elements, including but not limited to pseudorandom noise, such that the degraded media is suitable merely for demonstration or trial purposes, and with the watermark resistant to removal without proper authorization; but with authorization, can then be removed from the media file to prepare it for its ultimate high-quality use.

  • Publication number: 20060215746
    Abstract: A digital filter pre-calculates C(1)*S(n?1), C(2)*S(n?2) . . . C(p?1)*S(n?p+1), prior to the arrival of sample S(n). As such y ? ( n ) = ? k = 0 k = p - 1 ? C ? ( k ) * S ? ( n - k ) may be calculated as a result of a single further multiply and accumulate operation, upon arrival of the symbol S(n). This, significantly reduces the latency of the filter.

  • Publication number: 20060099838
Abstract: A releasably engageable locking pin for coupling members such as shackles and the like comprises a shaft of non-circular cross-section with a head at one end. The non-circular shaft is engageable in aligned complementary apertures in shackle devises to prevent rotation of the pin in the apertures. At the end of the pin opposite the head is a bayonet-type coupling formation to releasably engage a retaining member under the influence of a resilient bias caused by axial compression of a resiliently deformable member when in a locked position.

  • Publication number: 20050233881
Abstract: A method of reversing direction of an article is disclosed by engaging an article with a first belt to move the article in a first direction; disengaging the article from the first belt; and then engaging the article with a second belt to move the article in a second direction. An apparatus to reverse direction of an article is also disclosed by a first belt rotating in a first direction; a second belt rotating in a second direction; the first belt engaging an article at a first time while the second belt is disengaged with the article, the first belt disengaging the article at a second time, and the second belt engaging the article at a third time while the first belt is disengaged with the article.

  • Publication number: 20050230449
Abstract: An improved web accumulator with two arms where at least one arm is a swinging dancer arm and at least one arm is attached to a sliding carriage. Each arm has a set of rollers attached. A web is threaded alternately between the two sets of rollers. The arms are mechanically connected to move simultaneously towards or away from each other. The arms are initially position at their maximum separation to accumulate a maximum length of web. When web infeed is interrupted while web outfeed or draw persists, the arms are first rotated in towards each other to pay out the stored length of web. As the demand persists and the dancer arm is rotated beyond some predefined position, the sliding carriage begins to slide to a least storage position. As web infeed returns to normal operational speeds, the dancer arm and the sliding carriage are returned to their original position to again accumulate a maximum amount of web.

  • Publication number: 20050230056
Abstract: A method and apparatus for applying tape tabs to a traveling web of material, for example, placement of tape tabs on a running web of disposable undergarments. A pair of wheels each has a protuberance come in contact with the running web of material, which comes in contact with an infeeding tape web. The invention allows placement of tape tabs at asymmetrical spacings, where placement of the tape from contact of the first wheel and protuberance may not be equally or centrally spaced from placement of the tape by the second wheel and protuberance.

  • Publication number: 20050202785
Abstract: A wireless communications system suitable for use within an aircraft, such as a part of a wireless emergency lighting system (WELS) is provided. In an aircraft, EXIT signs are located throughout the interior of the aircraft, including the ceiling (general illumination), seats (floor proximity) and EXIT doors (locator/identifier). A wireless communications system uses an integrated lens antenna system that takes advantage of the quantity and location of emergency lights such that any given light will have a direct radio frequency (RF) path to several other lights. A virtual network can be created such that if the path between any two lights becomes disrupted, alternate paths will be constructed under software control.

  • Publication number: 20050065726
Abstract: A locomotive location system and method utilizes inertial measurement inputs, including orthogonal acceleration inputs and turn rate information, in combination with wheel-mounted tachometer information and GPS/DGPS position fixes to provide processed outputs indicative of track occupancy, position, direction of travel, velocity, etc. Various navigation solutions are combined together to provide the desired information outputs using an optimal estimator designed specifically for rail applications and subjected to motion constraints reflecting the physical motion limitations of a locomotive. The system utilizes geo-reconciliation to minimize errors and solutions that identify track occupancy when traveling through a turnout.

  • Publication number: 20030212747
Abstract: Electronic text messages (electronic mail, e-mail) are disseminated over a data link, in particular the Internet or over a telephone network. A status signal for signaling the reception of an electronic message is sent with respect to the message to be transmitted. In order to ensure here that the receiver is informed of the reception of electronic text messages as immediately as possible even if the respective receiver device, i.e. the receiver computer is not switched on or is not online at that particular time, a status signal is transmitted for chronologically characterizing the reception or the directly imminent reception of an electronic text message over a separate transmission path or transmission channel. The status signal is in the form of an automatically generated signal or telephone call and is in a direct chronological relationship with the message which has been sent or which is to be sent.
