  • Patent number: 7517579
Abstract: A bonded structure including one or more substrates bonded together with a tackified amorphous poly-alpha-olefin adhesive composition. One method of making such a bonded structure is carried out by applying a tackified amorphous poly-alpha-olefin adhesive composition to one or more substrates at a temperature of about 170 degrees Celsius or lower, and joining the substrates to themselves or to one another. The bonded structure has a dynamic peel strength between about 400 and about 1000 grams per 25 millimeters. The bonding efficiency of the bonded structure renders the bonded structure suitable for incorporation into a variety of articles, including personal care products, health/medical products, and household/industrial product, for example.

  • Patent number: 7380746
Abstract: A method of accumulating a web includes pivoting subsets of rolls to a generally vertical alignment; moving one set of rolls past the other; passing the web between the sets of rolls; moving one set of rolls past the other to engage the web; pivoting the subsets to a generally horizontal alignment; moving the web alternatively between the subsets; and moving the sets apart to accumulate the web and together to discharge the web. A web accumulator includes at least two sets of rolls. Each set of rolls has subsets of rolls. The subsets have two consecutive staggered rolls. The accumulator has a web path defined by alternating between subsets of the first set and subsets of the second set.

  • Patent number: 5850771
Abstract: A distinctive method and apparatus (20) technique for intermittently applying a component (22) onto a moving substrate (26). The method and apparatus can include a conveyor (28) configured to provide the moving substrate (26) at a selected substrate speed, and a transporter (30) configured to deliver a component web (24) at a selected component web speed which differs from the substrate speed. A rotatable applicator roll (32) has an appointed rotational direction (36), and an outside applicator surface (34). The applicator roll is configured to be rotated at a rate which provides to the applicator surface (34) a surface speed which is substantially equal to the substrate speed. At least one deceleration carriage (40) is assembled to rotate with the applicator roll (32) and is configured to receive and hold a selected portion of the component web (24).
