    Abstract: A belt retractor (10) of a seatbelt system comprises a belt tensioner (11) which is adapted to rotate a belt reel (14) of the belt retractor (10) accommodated in a belt retractor frame (12), wherein the belt retractor frame (12) is closed by a cover (16) on the tensioner side in the area of the spindle of the belt reel (14) and in the cover (16) a bearing for the belt reel (14) is provided. The cover (16) includes a first pot-shaped cover part (16a) which is mounted directly on the belt retractor frame (12) and has a side wall (24) merging into a flat portion (26). In the flat portion (26) an opening (32) is spared and a second cover part (16b) is provided which engages in the opening (32) in the first cover part (16a) and on which a bearing (40) is formed in which an end (42) of the spindle of the belt reel (14) is supported.

Under a high load only tensile forces occur substantially in the shell section (10), whereby the shell section (10) surrounding the locking toothings (26a, 28a) acts as a band brake, thereby relieving the load on the locking pawls (22, 24).

In operation, the belt tightener moves the buckle towards the vehicle floor to tighten the webbing. A return brake for diminishing energy peaks in the webbing system is formed by a torsion bar (32) on which a gear (34) is mounted via an overrunning clutch (36). The gear (34) is in engagement with a toothing (46) of the drive plate (40). A linear drive engages the drive plate (40) for moving the drive plate (40).

    Abstract: The locking means for the drive member of a passive safety-belt system includes a pivotally mounted ratchet hook which secures the drive member in its end position corresponding to the belt fastening position. The ratchet hook is arranged on the side of the drive member to which the tensile force occurring at the drive member is directed under accident load. The nose of the ratchet hook dips into a recess at the upper edge of the drive member. Even after high accident stress due to a head-on collision, in which deformation of the loaded parts occurs, the ratchet hook remains reliably in engagement with the drive member.
