  • Patent number: 6888090
Abstract: A method of forming a welded component by electron beam welding, and the resulting welded assembly. The method is particularly directed to the welding of a component whose subcomponents are formed of dissimilar metals, with the result that an electron beam used to weld the subcomponents is prone to being deflected away from the contact surface interface between the subcomponents and into one of the subcomponents as it passes through the interface. The method is also suitable for welding applications in which the interface between the subcomponents has an arcuate shape. The method involves magnetically steering the electron beam so that the beam is caused to follow the desired path through the interface.

  • Patent number: 6884964
Abstract: The method of repairing a metal alloy component, and the resulting repaired component. The method involves machining the component surface to remove a defect, and then placing in the resulting surface cavity a filler insert whose size and shape are predetermined so that the welding operation can be carried out to completely melt the insert while minimizing the melting of the component immediately surrounding the insert. As such, minimum mixing occurs between the materials of the insert and the component, thereby reducing the risk of cracking following the welding operation.

  • Patent number: 6841944
Abstract: A diagnostic and configuration identification system for an electrical device and a Photo-controller which automatically turns the electrical device on and off in response to ambient light levels. A detector senses the load drawn by the electrical device when it is on. A processor is responsive to the load drawn by the electrical device when it is on and programmed to detect a cycling fault condition based on the load drawn by the electrical device and to provide an indication of a cycling fault condition according several possible programming configurations. When no cycling or other fault condition is detected the processor determines the cycling fault condition indication configuration and then outputs a cycling signal indicative of the program configuration.

  • Patent number: 6832892
Abstract: A steam turbine includes a rotor supporting a plurality of turbine buckets. The rotor has shaped grooves for receiving a complementary-shaped bucket hook formed on an end of each of the turbine buckets. A rope seal is disposed in each interface between the bucket hooks and the shaped grooves, respectively. The rope seal serves to seal a leakage path that may exist over the bucket hooks between the buckets and respective rotor grooves.

  • Publication number: 20040202478
Abstract: The invention relates to an electro-optical module for transmitting and/or receiving optical signals of at least two optical data channels which are guided in an optical waveguide. The module includes at least one transmission component and at least one reception component. According to the invention, the optical waveguide is formed as a single waveguide piece with a bevelled end face which has a wavelength-selective filter or is connected to such a filter. Light from one data channel is reflected at the wavelength-selective filter and coupled out at an angle to the optical axis of the waveguide piece. Light of the other data channel passes through the wavelength-selective filter and enters the bevelled end face. A free beam region is formed between the bevelled end face and the transmission and reception components.

  • Patent number: 6736356
Abstract: A toothbrush holder adapter is provided which consists of an integral, unitary component with a toothbrush receiving section and a rear section adapted to be inserted into the holes or openings in a wall-mounted toothbrush holder. The receiving section of the member comprises dual side members forming a tapered opening into which a toothbrush is inserted and retained below its brush head. The dual side members merge to form the rear section, an extension portion which is insertable into an opening in the holder. The adapter is entirely coated with rubberized or plastic-type coating to assist in gripping the surfaces of the holder and the toothbrush handle, and in maintaining the adapter securely in the holder when a toothbrush is positioned in it. In an alternate configuration the extension portion of the adapter can be secured to a suction cup, in order to allow the adapter to support a toothbrush on a substantially vertical surface, such as a mirror or tile wall.
