  • Patent number: 10368369
Abstract: An access point (AP) uses a communication channel resource to communicate with first wireless communication devices using orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) and with second wireless communication devices using carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA). The AP alternates between OFDMA communication and CSMA/CA communication, and—during OFDMA communication—alternating between uplink and downlink communication. Each time period between an end of uplink communication and a start of downlink communication has a duration that is smaller than a time period threshold, and each time period between an end of downlink communication and a start of uplink communication has a duration that is smaller than the time period threshold. The time period threshold is smaller than or equal to a minimum time period required for any of the second wireless communication devices to acquire access to communication with the AP using CSMA/CA.

  • Patent number: 10342041
Abstract: There is provided access to a communications channel in a wireless communications network. Stations (STAs) associated with an access point (AP) are grouped in at least two groups of STAs, each group being associated with a minimum transmission power level needed by the AP to communicate with the STAs in that group. A first time interval is allocated for a first group of STAs associated with highest minimum transmission power to access the communications channel concurrently with a third time interval being allocated by another AP for a third group of STAs associated with lowest minimum transmission power level needed by said another AP to communicate with the third group of STAs to access the communications channel.

  • Patent number: 10326570
Abstract: There is provided mechanisms for frequency selective scheduling of wireless devices in a communication network. A method is performed by a wireless network node. The method comprises transmitting a first packet to at least one wireless device over the entire available bandwidth of the communication network, wherein the first packet comprises information identifying which wireless devices are addressed by the packet, and which downlink sub-carriers are used for data transmission to the addressed wireless devices. The method comprises receiving a second packet on uplink sub-carriers allocated to at least the addressed wireless devices and therefrom determining channel quality indications for the uplink sub-carriers. The uplink sub-carriers are allocated to enable the channel quality indications to be determined over the entire bandwidth for at least each one of the addressed wireless devices.

  • Publication number: 20190158120
Abstract: An apparatus for generating encoded data includes processing circuitry configured to encode data using a Mojette transform (MT) based on generating encoded representations of data blocks. Generating the encoded representations of data blocks includes reading data in the form of a data block formatted according to specified settings to comprise rows and columns, creating a set of projections, and outputting the created set of projections to enable storage of the data in the form of the set of projections. The apparatus then transmits the encoded data over a network to another device. Additionally, creating the set of projections includes applying the Mojette transform on the data block, and creating a first number of projections based on mapping each row of the data block to a corresponding projection, wherein the first number of projections carries the same information as a corresponding row.

  • Publication number: 20190158124
Abstract: A method of redundantly encoding data includes formatting the data into columns and rows, and generating first and second sets of projections of the data using an encoding transform. For each set of projections generated, an encoding parameter of the encoding transform is set to a different value. The first and second sets of projections are stored as the encoded data. A decoding method reads settings including an indication of a number of data fragments. The number of data fragments is compared to a number of projections in a first set of projections of the encoded data in order to determine whether to use a first or a second decoding mode. The encoded data is then decoded according to the selected decoding mode and the result is outputted.

  • Publication number: 20190124658
Abstract: An UL carrier frequency or a downlink carrier frequency is adapted as a consequence of a determination that there is a difference in link budgets between uplink and downlink. Since a downlink provides a geographical coverage that is of a certain size, a lesser reliability of the uplink has a consequence that a mobile terminal may not be able to communicate when located far from a network node that transmits the downlink but still within the geographical coverage area of the downlink. Such drawbacks of present day wireless communication systems can be at least mitigated by embodiments of the present disclosure.

  • Patent number: 10075274
Abstract: An Access Point (AP) 402 and a method therein for Multi-User Clear-To-Send (MU CTS) signaling between the AP and at least one wireless station (STA) 404,406. The AP sends a Request To Send (RTS) packet directed to multiple STAs. The RTS packet is indicating at least two STAs, to which the AP would like to transmit, and a configuration of a CTS packet to be used by said at least two STAs when responding to the RTS packet. The configuration enables the AP to identify the at least two STAs when the at least two STAs are transmitting a respective CTS packet. Further the AP receives, from at least one STA, a respective CTS packet transmitted in accordance with the indicated configuration, thereby enabling the AP to identify the at least one STA transmitting the respective CTS packet.

  • Publication number: 20180160451
Abstract: A communications device and a method therein for accessing a Resource Unit (RU) are provided. The communications device and an Access Point (AP) are operating in a wireless communications network. When wanting to start an access attempt within a time interval, the communications device selects a counter value from a first range given by zero and a first Contention-Window OFDMA (CWO) value CWO1. Further, when wanting to start an access attempt outside the time interval, the communications device selects the counter value from a second range given by zero and a second CWO value CWO2, wherein the second CWO value CWO2 is larger than the first CWO value CWO1. The communications device performs a contention procedure using the selected counter value, wherein a Resource Unit (RU) is accessed in dependence of the performed contention procedure.

  • Publication number: 20180103491
Abstract: A first communications device 102 and a method therein for transmitting data to a second communications device 104 on a sub-channel. The first device performs carrier sensing on a first sub-channel assigned an unknown occupancy state. When the first sub-channel is determined as being vacant, the first device transmits, to the second device, the data on the first sub-channel. When the first sub-channel is determined as being occupied, the first device assigns the first sub-channel an occupied state, starts a first time period associated with the first sub-channel, and performs carrier sensing on a second sub-channel assigned with the unknown occupancy state. When the second sub-channel is determined as being vacant, the first device transmits, to the second device, the data on the second sub-channel. In absence of the second sub-channel assigned an unknown occupancy state, the first device enters an inactive mode until the first time period has expired.

  • Publication number: 20170353938
Abstract: There is provided a method for time synchronization of stations (STAs) in a wireless local area network. An access point (AP) transmits a request to at least two STAs for the at least two STAs to transmit a response to the AP, the request indicating which frequency sub-band each of the at least two STAs is to use for transmitting the response. Responses to the request are received from the at least two STAs, wherein each of the responses comprises orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) symbols. For each of the at least two STAs, a time delay is determined based on the responses. Then, control signalling is transmitted to the at least two STAs, the control signalling comprising time alignment commands for the at least two STAs, wherein each time alignment command is based on the time delay for one of the at least two STAs.

  • Patent number: 9838173
Abstract: A node in a wireless communication network uses a modified data-to-subcarrier mapping on at least a selective basis, wherein the modified mapping effectively extends the cyclic prefix (CP) of a transmission targeted to a given receiver without extending the CP of the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) symbol in which the transmission is conveyed. This approach allows, for example, the node to use a first or normal data-to-subcarrier mapping for transmissions that are targeted to receivers that do not need an effective increase of the CP length, while using the modified mapping for those receivers that need a longer effective CP length, e.g., because of receiver type or channel conditions.
