  • Publication number: 20130266909
Abstract: An implant (10) for implantation in a human or animal bone (11) has a bone area (12), which is in contact with the bone (11), and a light area, which is not covered by the bone (11). It likewise has a photo-activatable substance (14), which is activated when illuminated with light (2) and thereafter destroys microbes and bacteria. The implant (10) is made of a material which is transparent at, at least, one activation wavelength of the photo-activatable substance (14), wherein the photo-activatable substance (14) is applied at least to the surface of the bone area (12) of the implant.

  • Publication number: 20050187638
Abstract: The endoprosthesis component consists of a ceramic material which contains aluminium oxide and zirconium (di)oxide, the zirconium (di)oxide being present unstabilized or stabilized. The material has a gradient of the aluminium oxide and zirconium (di)oxide contents. In the area of increased tensile, bending and torsional stresses the zirconium (di)oxide content is increased compared with the articulation area, which contains predominantly aluminium oxide. The endoprosthesis component can be produced by infiltration of an open-pored pre-sintered aluminium oxide matrix by a zirconium (di)oxide slip, a zirconium salt solution, a zirconium-containing sol or alcoholate or a mixture of two or more of the abovementioned solutions/liquids. It can also be produced by continuously filling a compression mould with a mixture of aluminium oxide and zirconium (di)oxide powders, the mixing ratio of aluminium oxide and zirconium (di)oxide being varied during the filling of the compression mould.

  • Publication number: 20040225367
Abstract: The hip-or shoulder-joint endoprosthesis has a stem (10) and a ball head (20) that has an arched top side (21) and a closed underside (22). The longitudinal axis of the stem (10) forms an angle of at most 30° with the axis of the ball head (20). The stem (10) tapers with an overall aperture angle in the range of 5 to 30°. The ball head (20) has the shape of a sphere section of less than a hemisphere. The length of the stem (10) is less than the diameter of the ball head (20). The longitudinal axis of the stem (10) can coincide with the axis of the ball head (20).
