  • Patent number: 9161388
Abstract: The present invention relates to a radio base station (RBS) (1). The RBS comprises a first radio unit (RU) (2) and a second RU (3). The RBS is configured such that said first and second RUs will use the same scrambling or cell identity code for communication with a wireless communication terminal (9) such that the wireless communication terminal will regard the first and second RUs as relating to the same cell of the RBS. The invention also relates to a communication system (13) comprising the RBS, as well as to a use of the RBS for performing an internal handover, after UL measurements, of the communication terminal from the first RU to the second RU, and a method of arranging the RBS.

  • Patent number: 9072076
Abstract: A method is provided in a base station for handling a request from a first user equipment for accessing a service in a radio communications network. The method comprises the steps of receiving a first time interval of an incoming signal comprises a first signal sent from the first user equipment and a second signal sent from the second user equipment, interpreting the first signal as being a possible service access request message preamble, and sending an acknowledgement, that the preamble is detected, to the first user equipment. The method comprises the further steps of delaying the first time interval of the incoming signal, identifying the second signal in the first time interval of the incoming signal during the delay, washing the identified second signal away from the first time interval of the incoming signal during the delay, and deciding whether the possible preamble is a real preamble or not, by analyzing the washed incoming signal.

  • Publication number: 20150071149
Abstract: A multiple sector RBS and a method therein for controlling the RBS is provided. The RBS is connectable to multiple sector antenna units supporting N sectors, N?2, being associated with respective cell ids. The RBS comprises N Radio Units, RUs, serving the sectors. The method comprises transmitting (110) a respective cell id in each individual sector; deciding (115) that at least two individual sectors shall be merged; deciding (120) which at least two sectors that shall be merged; and identifying their respective cell id. The method comprises determining (125) one cell id out of the identified at least two cell ids to be active, wherein the remaining cell id(s) to be passive; and transitioning (130), in each sector associated with a passive cell id, from transmitting the passive cell id to transmitting the active cell id. The method comprises switching off (135) RU(s) responsible for transmitting the passive cell ids.

  • Patent number: 8908650
Abstract: An interface, apparatus, and method are described for communication between a radio control (REC) node and first and second radio equipment (RE) nodes in a radio base station that transceives information over radio interface using multiple antenna carriers. The REC node is separate from and coupled to the first RE node by a first transmission link, and the second RE node coupled to the first RE by a second transmission link. Both control information and user information intended for communication between the REC node and the first RE node and the REC and the second RE node are conveyed over the first transmission link. The first RE node also conveys information between the REC and second RE node. Many advantageous features are described.

  • Patent number: 8200230
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for reducing the number of uplink interference peaks during soft handover from a radio base station (RBS A) providing a source cell (12) to a radio base station (RBS B) providing a target cell (13) in a cellular mobile communication system. The invention also relates to radio base station (RBS) and a radio network controller (RNC) specifically designed for carrying out the method. The RNC orders RBS B of the target cell to set up a link to a mobile (MS) involved in the soft handover procedure. Further the RNC orders the mobile to start listening for RBS B of the target cell and to synchronize to RBS B. RBS B synchronizes with the mobile in a downlink (6) but not in the uplink. The invention is characterized in that the RNC orders RBS A to set a RF transmission power floor below which its transmission power must not fall when the mobile receives RBS B in the target cell stronger than RBS A and perceives the signal in the downlink from RBS B too strong.

  • Patent number: 7940833
Abstract: A transmitter (20) for a code division multiple access radio access network intelligently preconditions a channel-merged signal which is applied to its amplifier (22) so that the amplifier does not experience, e.g., precipitous power changes. The transmitter (20) comprises an amplifier (22) for amplifying the channel-merged signal at a signal output power; a detector (24) for performing detection of when output power of the channel-merged signal is about to change by a specified amount; and, a noise inserter (26) for adding a noise signal to the channel-merged signal in dependence upon the detection. Insertion of the noise smoothes an edge of the power change curve and thereby averts stress for the amplifier.

  • Patent number: 7848743
Abstract: An inherent non-observability of the thermal noise power level is circumvented by estimating an upper limit of the thermal noise power level by time evaluations. An instantaneous total received wideband power is measured in a receiver. Preferably, also an instantaneous sum of powers of all links used in the same cell is provided. A quantity (P?), preferably the difference between the instantaneous total received wideband power and the instantaneous sum of powers of all links used in the same cell, is followed (110) during a time period (TLag). A minimum value (PMIN) of that quantity is then used as an estimate of the thermal noise power level upper limit. Preferably, the time period is configured as a sliding window. An improved determination of noise rise can then be calculated and used for controlling traffic within the cell.

  • Patent number: 7586865
Abstract: A base station receives multiple first signals from multiple mobile terminals over a first radio channel (e.g., a RACH, a CPCH, etc.). Multiple acknowledgement signals are generated for transmission over an acquisition indication channel (AICH) during a same access time slot. Each acknowledgement signal is responsive to one of the mobile terminals and includes a signature sequence of bits associated with the first signal received from that mobile terminal. An AICH transmission power profile is determined for the access time slot. If the AICH transmission power profile exceeds a predetermined maximum transmission power parameter, then a first portion of the an AICH transmission power profile is adjusted. Thereafter, the acknowledgement signals are transmitted over the AICH in accordance with the adjusted AICH transmission power profile.

  • Publication number: 20080039128
Abstract: The transmit power of a radio transmitter associated with a transmitting node communicating with a receiving node is controlled based on a propagation delay time associated with communication between the transmitting node and the receiving node. A power control loop is established for controlling a transmission power level for transmitting a signal from the transmitting node to the receiving node. A response time of the power control loop is reduced based on the propagation delay time.

  • Patent number: 7269422
Abstract: A control node (26) of a radio access network (24) comprises a soft handover unit (62) and a power control unit (50). The soft handover unit (62) controls a soft handover procedure wherein a user equipment unit (30) has diversity in radio transmissions with plural radio base stations (28) comprising an active set of base stations. The power control unit (50), during the soft handover procedure, facilitates an adjustment of an uplink power level used by the user equipment unit (30) for uplink radio transmissions to the plural base stations by an adjustment amount. The adjustment amount is determined to promote uplink synchronization for all radio base stations of the active set. In one example embodiment, the power control unit (50) comprises a soft handover power boost function (70) which, during the soft handover procedure, increases the uplink power level used by the user equipment unit (30) for uplink radio transmissions by the adjustment amount.
