Patent number: 10084856Abstract: A capability is provided for supporting a service location capability in a peer-to-peer network (P2P), such as a Chord network or other P2P network. In one embodiment, a method for locating a service within a P2P network is provided. The P2P network includes a plurality of nodes, including a target node which performs the method for locating the service within the P2P network. The target node includes a search table including a plurality of entries identifying a respective plurality of nodes of the P2P network. The method includes detecting a request to search for the service within the P2P network and initiating, toward at least one of the nodes of the search table, a service search request. The service search request is a request to identify at least one node of the P2P network that supports the service. The service search request includes information indicative of the service and a search range for use by the node receiving the service search request.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2009Date of Patent: September 25, 2018Assignee: WSOU Investments, LLCInventors: Thomas P. Patent number: 10021010Abstract: A capability is provided for adaptive polling of a device based on a set of polling control regions configured to control polling of the device. The set of polling control regions is defined based on at least one of a set of control parameters and non-parametric control information. A transition within the set of polling control regions is determined based on a current polling control region and a target polling control region that is determined based on input information received while in the current polling control region. The input information may include at least one of values of one or more parameters in the set of parameters and non-parametric input information. The transition may include remaining in the current polling control region or transitioning to a new polling control region. The transition may be performed based on a rapid up controlled down (RUCD) transition scheme.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 2015Date of Patent: July 10, 2018Assignee: WSOU Investments, LLCInventors: Thomas P. Publication number: 20160205157Abstract: In one embodiment, a first node is adapted for communication with a plurality of additional nodes of a communication network, such as a Delaunay Triangulation (DT) network. The first node is configured to detect a failure in delivery of a broadcast packet to at least a given one of the additional nodes. Responsive to the detected failure in delivery of the broadcast packet to the given additional node, the first node encapsulates the broadcast packet in a unicast packet for delivery to a downstream node of the given additional node. The first node may be configured to detect the failure in delivery of the broadcast packet to the given additional node using a hop level acknowledgment process. Other embodiments are configured to facilitate implementation of progressive search by communicating identifiers from boundary nodes of the network that are reached in a given stage of the progressive search.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 27, 2013Publication date: July 14, 2016Applicant: Alcatel-Lucent USA Inc.Inventors: Thomas P. Patent number: 8976730Abstract: For voice traffic over-the-air in LTE, persistent schedule (PS) or semi-persistent (SPS) scheduling would be the preferred method as they minimize signaling messages. In PS or SPS, resources are pre-allocated to the UE 402 at regular intervals (e.g., every 20 milliseconds). At each time slot, the UE will generally transmit an IMBE frames which are encoded in ISSI packet. In ISSI, other data streams are multiplexed with the IMBE frame and thus the packet size varies depending on its position within a super-frame. For PS or SPS, eNodeB must allocated sufficient resources to support the largest packet that. Therefore, there is spare capacity when the packet is not of the largest size. The exemplary embodiments specify ways to use spare capacity to transfer data.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 2011Date of Patent: March 10, 2015Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Thomas P. Patent number: 8842575Abstract: Various embodiments provide a method and apparatus of providing a non-overlapping ring-mesh network topology which reduces costs (e.g., the number of network links) while providing resiliency to failure and meeting QoS requirements (e.g., network delay attributed to traversing the network architecture). In particular, a set of target nodes belonging to a cluster are connected through N rings. Each node is member of all N rings and no link between nodes in a ring is duplicated in another ring.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 2012Date of Patent: September 23, 2014Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Thomas P. Patent number: 8792499Abstract: An example method includes receiving at a scheduling server status information concerning at least one transmit queue for a plurality of optical pass-through switches (OptSws). A schedule for transmissions to take place is determined based on the status information for the OptSws. A control message is forwarded to the plurality of OptSws in order that the schedule may be implemented. In an embodiment, a schedule is determined for a wavelength available to transmit a transmission by removing unsupportable transmissions from a candidate transmission list, determining a first transmission that is the one of the transmissions of the candidate transmission list which most preferably satisfies a given parameter, updating a usage list to reflect determination of the first transmission; and replacing the candidate transmission list with the residue set of the first transmission. The usage list reflects transmissions determined by the scheduler.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 2011Date of Patent: July 29, 2014Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Thomas P. Chu, Ahmet A. Patent number: 8792340Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention are directed to providing a method and system for call admission control for a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network shared between a plurality of user classes, such as, for example, a public safety user class and a consumer user class. An admission control module oversees the call admission process based on a specified policy profile. When there are insufficient resources in the network to support an incoming call, the admission control module will consult with a preemption module to determine whether, by preemption of lower priority calls, enough resources can be recovered to support the incoming call.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 2010Date of Patent: July 29, 2014Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Thomas P.
