  • Patent number: 9394850
Abstract: A gasket is provided having a first metallic layer and a second metallic layer. Both layers have combustion openings where each opening is surrounded by an edge of the layer. The first layer defines several beads and lands unitary with one another. A coating is located within one of the beads of the first layer and below the associated lands. • Patent number: 7287757
Abstract: A gasket having a layer including at least one combustion opening and a wave area located on the layer is disclosed. The wave area includes a first wave and a second wave. The first wave is proximate the combustion opening. A flat portion near the second wave includes a first end and a second end. A full bead is located next to the second end of the flat portion whereby a lower surface of the flat portion is above the lower projecting surfaces of the wave area.

  • Patent number: 6520134
Abstract: A baffle for use in an interior of a cam cover and a method of making the baffle are disclosed. The baffle includes a structural layer, which is made of metal, and an isolation layer that is made of a resilient foam. The isolation layer is disposed on a surface of the structural layer in a pattern that leaves uncovered a portion of the surface of the structural layer. When the baffle is installed in the cam cover, the isolation layer provides an interface between the structural layer and the cam cover, which isolates the baffle from vibrations in the cam cover. Since the isolation layer is applied only where it is needed, the disclosed baffle and process use less material.

  • Patent number: 6209883
Abstract: A gasket for use in an internal combustion engine is disclosed which includes a sealing element formed by an extrusion and ironing process in combination with a folding operation. The gasket has a plate that includes a body portion, a flange portion and an aperture. The thickness of the flange portion is reduced to less than that of the body portion by the extrusion and ironing process. The flange portion is then folded back onto a surface of the plate in facing relation to form a stopper seal to act as a primary seal. Optional embossments may then be formed radially and outwardly of the stopper seal so as to form a secondary seal.

  • Patent number: 6067857
Abstract: A processing arrangement for a brake element for a vehicle employs a rotational support, such as a precision collet arrangement, for supporting the brake element rotatably about a fixed axis of rotation. The brake element and the spindle are rotated by a drive arrangement that causes the brake element to rotate about the axis of rotation while a rotary encoder that is coupled to the drive arrangement produces a rotation data signal containing rotational information responsive to the rotation of the brake element. Residual unbalances are measured by the production of an unbalance data signal that is responsive to forces that are themselves responsive to a residual unbalance of the brake element. In addition, a surface dimension detector produces a surface dimension data electrical signal that is responsive to a dimensional characteristic of a surface of the brake element.

  • Patent number: 5988650
Abstract: An inventive multi-layered cylinder head gasket includes a metallic base plate with an inner peripheral edge spaced radially outwardly from a cylinder bore opening and a metallic compensating plate thicker than the base plate. The base plate includes a stopper section comprising an integral flange folded about an inner peripheral edge of the compensating plate and terminating at a free edge adjacent the inner peripheral edge of the base plate.

  • Patent number: 5984317
Abstract: A cylinder head gasket of the present invention includes a main gasket body and a metallic generally U-shaped flange which engages the inner periphery of a combustion bore opening formed in the main gasket body. A coating including tetrafluoroethylene and a high temperature resin binder such as either a polyimide or a polyamide-imide polymer are applied to at least the flange after it is formed and the entire gasket then cured at high temperatures in a series of steps including sintering to securely bond the coating to the flange. An optional plating layer disposed between the coating and the base material of the flange further improves bonding.

  • Patent number: 5490681
Abstract: An improved multi-layer gasket comprises only three metal plates and incorporates a dual coating system with different coatings applied to specific layers of the gasket. Through the orientation of the layers, a high temperature coating is used to enhance a combustion gas seal while an elastomer seal coating enhances a fluid seal. Through the selection of base metal thicknesses and coating thicknesses, an increased thickness area can be achieved to obtain an optimum load balance between the combustion seal and the fluid seal.

  • Patent number: 5277434
Abstract: A dual coating system is utilized for a cylinder head gasket of an internal combustion engine. A lubricous, high temperature coating is located at the combustion seals while an elastomeric coating is located at fluid flow openings. The coatings are applied to entire sides of plates in such a manner that the coatings do not have to be selectively applied to, or masked off from any one particular layer. The thickness of the various gasket components can be adjusted by shims to obtain an optimum load balance between seals.
