  • Publication number: 20220331120
Abstract: An orthopaedic components, prostheses, and methods for a hip arthroplasty are disclosed. An acetabular prosthetic component includes an outer rim and a cavity defined by an inner wall. The cavity is sized to receive a femoral head of a femoral prosthetic component. The inner wall includes a curved surface extending inwardly from the outer rim to an inner end, and a semi-spherical surface connected to the inner end of the curved surface. The inner wall is shaped to resist dislocation of the femoral head component from the cavity and permit the femoral head component to articulate over a range of motion.

The cavity is sized to receive a femoral head of a femoral prosthetic component. The inner wall includes a curved surface extending inwardly from the outer rim to an inner end, and a semi-spherical surface connected to the inner end of the curved surfac. The inner wall is shaped to resist dislocation of the femoral head component from the cavity and permit the femoral head component to articulate over a range of motion.

  • Patent number: 10524933
Abstract: An apparatus and method for measuring a version angle of a restored neck of a femur during a hip replacement procedure. The apparatus includes a broach. The broach has a distal end that is insertable into a medullary canal of the neck of the femur. The broach also has a proximal end that extends along a neck axis of the broach. The apparatus also includes a protractor. The protractor includes a rod which is attachable to the proximal end of the broach to extend away from the neck axis of the broach for measuring the version angle of the restored neck of the femur relative to a vertical direction. The method includes inserting the broach, flexing the knee at approximately ninety degrees, orienting the tibia vertically, attaching the protractor to the proximal end of the broach and using it to measure the version angle.

  • Patent number: 5378228
Abstract: Apparatus and methods involving the use of a prosthetic low pressure reservoir for joint fluid and removal of particulate debris from arthritic joints or joints containing artificial, man-made prostheses. The apparatus filters the fluid and traps any particles therein, thus removing them from the periprosthetic space. A communication is created between a space continuous with the articular surfaces of a joint and a separate extraarticular space. The apparatus connects the space continuous with the articular surfaces of the joint to a fluid reservoir located in the extraarticular space. The reservoir contains means for fluid filtration and particle trapping. The extraarticular location of the reservoir is at a lower pressure than the intraarticular space. Increases in intraarticular joint fluid pressure during normal joint activities will cause fluid and particulate debris to preferentially flow into the low pressure reservoir.
