  • Patent number: 4954739
Abstract: A dynamoelectric machine having a large magnetic gap between the rotor and the stator includes a slotless stator windings located within the large magnetic gap, and a mgnetic assembly consisting of radially aligned permanent magnets separated by non-magnetic material. The magnetic pole circumferential length and the radial gap length are proportioned such that the permanent magnets are operated at or near their maximum energy product.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 3, 1988
Date of Patent: September 4, 1990
    Assignee: Kollmorgen Corporation
Inventors: Roy D. Schultz, Thomas R. England, A. Clark Altizer
  • Patent number: 4868970
Abstract: A method of making an electric motor with the stator winding inside a slotless cylindrical stator shell.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 19, 1987
Date of Patent: September 26, 1989
    Assignee: Kolimorgen Corporation
Inventors: Roy D. Schultz, Thomas R. England, A. Clark Altizer
  • Patent number: 4797592
Abstract: A rotary electric dynamo machine in which the ripple component in the output occurs at a higher frequency. One half of the pole faces have a nonuniform airgap while the other half have a uniform air gap and cover a noninteger slot distance. The armature has an odd number of slots. Instead of the usual ripple component at the slot frequency, a dynamo constructed as described above, surprisingly, has a predominant ripple component at twice the slot frequency.

  • Patent number: 4538080
Abstract: A brushless DC tachometer including an alternator which produces a substantially trapezoidal output signal coupled to an FET transistor switching bridge. The trapezoidal output signal is achieved using a block permanent magnet for one pole and a consequent pole contoured to achieve a substantially uniform flux density for the winding over a distance sufficient to produce a trapezoidal output signal.
