Patent number: 8805681Abstract: A method and apparatus to search a codebook including pulses that model a predetermined component of a speech signal. The method includes the operations of selecting a predetermined number of paths corresponding to a predetermined number of pulse locations that are most consistent with the predetermined component, from among paths corresponding to pulse locations of a predetermined pulse location set allocated to at least one branch that connects one state of a predetermined Trellis structure to another state, performing the path selecting operation on each of states other than the one state, and selecting a path corresponding to pulse locations that are most consistent with the predetermined component, from among paths including the selected paths, wherein each path corresponds to a union of plural tracks of an Algebraic codebook. Accordingly, the number of calculations required during a codebook search is reduced.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 2013Date of Patent: August 12, 2014Assignee: SAMSUNG Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hosang Sung, Kangeun Lee, Sang-won Kang, Thomas R. Patent number: 7944377Abstract: Provided are a method and apparatus for quantization encoding and de-quantization decoding using a trellis. Unlike a trellis coded quantization (TCQ) index, by classifying quantization levels to which cosets are allocated and allocating indexes to the quantization levels so that a coset corresponding to a specific branch in a predetermined state in the trellis can be selected with only indexes without encoding or decoding information on paths, quantization encoding and de-quantization decoding are performed by using a new index.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2009Date of Patent: May 17, 2011Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Ho-sang Sung, Thomas R. Fischer

Patent number: 7630890Abstract: A block-constrained Trellis coded quantization (TCQ) method and a method and apparatus for quantizing line spectral frequency (LSF) parameters employing the same in a speech coding system wherein the LSF coefficient quantizing method includes: removing the direct current (DC) component in an input LSF coefficient vector; generating a first prediction error vector by performing inter-frame and intra-frame prediction for the LSF coefficient vector, in which the DC component is removed, quantizing the first prediction error vector by using the BC-TCQ algorithm, and by performing intra-frame and inter-frame prediction compensation, generating a quantized first LSF coefficient vector; generating a second prediction error vector by performing intra-frame prediction for the LSF coefficient vector, in which the DC component is removed, quantizing the second prediction error vector by using the BC-TCQ algorithm, and then, by performing intra-frame prediction compensation, generating a quantized second LSF coefficientType: GrantFiled: February 19, 2004Date of Patent: December 8, 2009Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Chang-yong Son, Sang-won Kang, Yong-won Shin, Thomas R. Patent number: 5199638Abstract: A manure spreader device and method of distributing any of a variety of manure materials having varying consistencies are provided. The device and method embody a concept in which a plurality of elongated augers that are longitudinally positioned within a translatable bin deliver manure material to an outfeed location for translation of the manure material to a beater assembly which distributes the manure material onto a field or the like. A slippage characteristic is exhibited at the outfeed location whereby, when manure material within the outfeed location exceeds the expelling rate capacity of the beater assembly, slippage occurs between the manure material and rotating blades at the outfeed location so as to avoid overloading of the beater assembly by the particular manure material being spread.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 1992Date of Patent: April 6, 1993Assignee: Allied Products CorporationInventor: Thomas R. Fischer

Patent number: 4801085Abstract: A manure spreader device and method of distributing any of a variety of manure materials having varying consistencies are provided. The device and method embody a concept in which a plurality of elongated augers that are longitudinally positioned within a translatable bin impart a stepped characteristic to the flow of manure material in order to loosen the manure material, if necessary, prior to its passage into a generally vertically oriented expeller assembly.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1987Date of Patent: January 31, 1989Assignee: Allied Products CorporationInventor: Thomas R. Patent number: 4233804Abstract: A pair of generally parallel snapping rolls are disclosed which mount beneath a stripper plate having a fore and aft extending slot through which stalks of corn may pass. The snapping rolls rotate in opposite directions and serve to draw stalks downwardly until the ears thereof strike the stripper plate and are snapped free. Each snapping roll has longitudinally extending flutes, the flutes of one roll being interleaved with those of the second roll. On each roll, the odd numbered (1, 3, 5, etc.) flutes extend radially outward while the even numbered (2, 4, 6, etc.) flutes extend outward at a non-radial angle. Rotating the two rolls in synchronism thus results in the generation of a cyclic narrow and wide spacing sequence between opposing flutes. This cyclic action provides improved efficiency in the harvesting operation.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 1979Date of Patent: November 18, 1980Assignee: Paul Revere CorporationInventors: Thomas R.
