  • Patent number: 6164169
Abstract: A socket mounting arrangement to receive a socket or other driving tool which may be mounted to a drive shaft, rigid extension, flexible extension, screwdriver handle having a rigid extension, screwdriver handle ratchet, screw driver handle flexible extension or incorporated within a driving tool such as a ratchet wrench or other ratcher driver. The socket mounting arrangement may be utilized with an extension for such a driving tool, whereby the extension defines a female drive tool end with a selected geometrically configured cross section for cooperative removable attachment to a mating male shaft of a driving tool. The socket mounting arrangement extension utilizes a coaxial sleeve on the extension shaft which is pushed outwardly toward the socket to release the socket. The socket mounting arrangement locks the socket onto the extension or other tool so that the socket cannot fall off without disengagement by movement of the coaxial sleeve.

  • Patent number: 5566595
Abstract: A drive shaft socket mounting arrangement to receive a socket or other tool having a tool end with a selected geometrically configured cross section to receive a tool to be attached to the shaft where a central, axial, bore is provided in the shaft and adapted to receive a slide. A first hole of selected first diameter is provided diametrically through the shaft a selected distance from the end of the shaft and passes through the axial bore. An elongate ring forms a sleeve having a cross drilled hole of second diameter smaller than the first diameter where the ring has a selected internal diameter larger than the diameter of the shaft is provided so that the sleeve is received on the shaft and so the cross drilled hole can be aligned with the first hole and where the sleeve has a lip adjacent the end opposite the end of the shaft so a portion of the sleeve forms an annular opening between the shaft surface and the inner surface of the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4932293
Abstract: A socket and socket retaining device for use with a drive shaft to releasably secure the socket to the drive shaft including a socket member having a radially drilled aperture therein extending from the outer periphery of the socket to a longitudinally extending central aperture adapted to receive the drive shaft where the drive shaft likewise includes a co-operative radially extending aperture, detent means adapted to be received within the radially extending socket member aperture and biased outwardly toward the outer periphery of the socket member where an elastomeric band is provided to contact the outer end of the detent and urge the detent into the aperture of the shaft when the shaft is inserted in the central aperture of the socket member.
