  • Publication number: 20100200371
Abstract: A machine for intended use in feeding and completing partially formed cartons is disclosed. In one embodiment, the machine includes a conveyor with selectively actuated lugs that engage and convey the carton. The lugs on each conveyor may be closely spaced or overlapping to allow for selective actuation at a desired instant in time. A diverter located at a transition between the forward and return runs of the lug conveyor may actuates the lugs in a controlled fashion. Related methods of feeding and forming cartons are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4306914
Abstract: Piping such as oil country tubular goods are passed to an external cleaning apparatus comprising a plurality of rotating brushes for cleaning the pipe exterior. The pipe is transported longitudinally by a conveying apparatus which also causes transverse rotation of the pipe. A brush is contained at the end of a conductive spear and the pipe is passed over the brush while rotating to clean the internal surface thereof. Once the pipe is fully disposed on the spear, electrically conductive clamps attach to the spear just behind the brush. Current is passed through the spear to produce a circumferential magnetic field in the pipe wall which field is later sensed to determine the existence of anomalies in the pipe structure. The pipe is then removed from the spear by movement over the internal cleaning brush caused by activation of the conveying apparatus in a direction opposite to its original motion which again effects cleaning of the inside surface of the pipe.

  • Patent number: 4216586
Abstract: A tapered plug gauge is disclosed for making graduated determinations of the inside diameter of a pipe, permitting rapid and effective determination of those pipe lengths which are oversize. The invention has particular utility for certain applications such as in the setting of oil field production casing. Pipe diameter is determined by insertion of a gauge into the pin end of a length of pipe, the outside diameter being noted by the depth of penetration, as indicated by a referenced circumscribed ring on the frustoconical surface of the device, the reference scribe being correlated by calculation assuming a pipe thickness which relates the measurement to the outside diameter to determine whether the pipe is oversize, and accordingly, the suitability of the particular pipe segment for use. The invention can be constructed in a plurality of sizes to correspond with pipe diameters and thicknesses standard in the petroleum industry.
