  • Patent number: 5277505
Abstract: A system is provided for adhesively attaching a first member to a generally planar portion of a second member. The system includes an attachment clip having a first, generally planar portion and a second portion remote from the first portion adapted for attachment to the first member. A generally planar base is sandwiched between the planar portion of the attachment clip and the planar portion of the second member. An adhesive is located between the base and the planar portion of the second member. A weld is provided between the base and the planar portion of the attachment clip. Therefore, "peel" stresses are eliminated between the base and the planar portion of the second member, as the weld develops a tensile load between the base and the planar portion of the attachment clip.

  • Patent number: 5255771
Abstract: A combplate safety device for a passenger conveyor moving relative to a frame and having a combplate mounted on the frame and movable relative to the frame in response to an obstruction to the motion of the conveyor. The combplate safety device includes a ramped hold down member which cooperates with the frame to define a rearwardly opening notch within which a complementary portion of the combplate is releasably secured against the frame in a vertically downward direction. A pair of limit switches are actuated upon a predetermined relative displacement of the combplate and the frame for deactivating the conveyor in response to the obstruction to the motion, with a compressible member being posed between the combplate and the frame to prevent accumulated debris from interfering with operation of the safety device.

  • Patent number: 5224580
Abstract: A power transmission system is provided for use in a platform drive mechanism of a passenger conveyor which has a conveyor frame and a plurality of laterally extending passenger platforms which are movably supported for driven movement about an endless path on the frame and engaged with a pair of circuitous drive chains disposed on opposite sides of the conveyor frame The transmission system has a multiple stage reduction gear drive positioned outboard of the passenger platforms and directly coupled between the drive chains and a motor for driving the passenger platforms in response to energization of the motor. A sprocket assembly has a drive shaft which extends laterally across the conveyor frame and mounts a pair of axially spaced sprockets.

  • Patent number: 5161668
Abstract: A guide mechanism for a passenger conveyor which includes a series of passenger platforms supported on and movable along a frame which has a support track for support rollers mounted on the platforms. The guide mechanism includes a monotrack guide rail, and a pair of horizontal pinch rollers supported by each passenger platform. The pinch rollers are in engagement with opposite sides of the monotrack guide rail. One of the pinch rollers is of a lower compression stiffness than the other pinch roller. The guide mechanism is coupled to a walking beam assembly wherein a pair of support rollers are mounted at opposite ends of a beam extending in the direction of movement of the conveyor, and the guide rail mechanism is coupled to the beam between the pair of support rollers.

  • Patent number: 5125494
Abstract: A drive pulley system is provided for a handrail drive mechanism of a passenger conveyor. The system includes a pulley, with a handrail drive belt wrapped about the pulley for rotation therewith. A pair of disc-like members are disposed on opposite sides of the pulley to sandwich the pulley therebetween. The disc-like members have diameters greater than that of the pulley and are rotatable relative to the pulley, or the disc-like members may be fixed to the pulley and be fabricated of low friction material. The handrail is wrapped about the outer peripheries of the disc-like members, spacing the handrail from the drive belt, and thereby allowing differential linear movement between the handrail drive belt and the handrail due to the relative rotation between the disc-like members and the pulley, or due to slippage between the handrail and the low friction disc-like members.

  • Patent number: 5115900
Abstract: An air supporting system is provided for a handrail of a passenger conveyor and includes a plenum. An air supply provides air flow to the plenum. A guide is mounted on one side thereof to the plenum. The guide includes at least one air pocket. A handrail is slidably engaged with the guide. An orifice through the guide allows air to pass from the enclosed space to the air pocket. The air in the pocket generates pressure and lift to the handrail as it is driven to decrease friction between the handrail and the guide and to support the handrail above the guide.
