    Abstract: A substantially cylindrical bar of microporous PTFE is non-fibrillated and incorporates pores within any cylindrical surface within the bar centred about the central longitudinal axis of the bar that are of substantially uniform size and are substantially uniformly distributed within that surface. The process for producing such a bar includes the step of applying a substantially radial compressive force to pre-heated and cooled granules of PTFE and subsequently re-heating and cooling the compressed granules, while a film of non-fibrillated, microporous PTFE is formed from the cooled bar, the plane of the film being perpendicular to the direction of the radial compressive force whereby the pores within any plane substantially perpendicular to the thickness of the film are of substantially uniform size and are substantially uniformly distributed within that plane and all such parallel planes.

    Abstract: Fission product iodine is removed from a waste gas stream and stored by passing the gas stream through a bed of silver-exchanged zeolite until the zeolite is loaded with iodine, passing dry hydrogen gas through the bed to remove the iodine and regenerate the bed, and passing the hydrogen stream containing the hydrogen iodide thus formed through a lead-exchanged zeolite which adsorbs the radioactive iodine from the gas stream and permanently storing the lead-exchanged zeolite loaded with radioactive iodine.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a method for reducing the amount of hydrogen chloride contained in a gas stream by reacting the hydrogen chloride with ammonia in the gas phase so as to produce ammonium chloride. The combined gas stream is passed into a condensation and collection vessel and a cyclonic flow is created in the combined gas stream as it passes through the vessel. The temperature of the gas stream is reduced in the vessel to below the condensation temperature of ammonium chloride in order to crystallize the ammonium chloride on the walls of the vessel. The cyclonic flow creates a turbulence which breaks off the larger particles of ammonium chloride which are, in turn, driven to the bottom of the vessel where the solid ammonium chloride can be removed from the vessel. The gas stream exiting from the condensation and collection vessel is further cleaned and additional ammonium chloride is removed by passing through additional filters.
