  • Patent number: 11155160
Abstract: A clutch assembly includes a clutch hub, a clutch drum disposed about the clutch hub, a first gear connected to the clutch drum, the first gear configured to be coupled with a first shaft, the clutch hub configured to be coupled with a second shaft, a clutch pack disposed between the clutch hub and the clutch drum, and an air-actuated piston assembly for selective actuation of the clutch pack to connect or disconnect two drive axles in a tandem axle assembly. The clutch assembly includes a plurality of lever arms disposed between the piston assembly and the clutch pack. Each lever arm extending to engage the piston and the clutch pack. Each lever arm may be pivotally mounted to a lever carrier plate or to a fixed portion of the piston housing.

  • Patent number: 8424507
Abstract: A vehicle includes an engine, a transmission associated with the engine, and an engine retarder having a deactivated state and an activated state. The engine retarder is configured to provide a retarding torque to the engine in the activated state. The vehicle also includes a fan associated with the engine. The fan is configured to be activated in response to a selection of a transmission gear ratio greater than or equal to a threshold gear ratio while the engine retarder is in the activated state. The fan assists in providing additional retarding torque to the engine while activated.

  • Patent number: 7114430
Abstract: A position determining system may include a hydraulic cylinder and a flow control device operatively connected to the hydraulic cylinder. A controller may be configured to supply an actuating signal to the flow control device. The controller may be configured to monitor a characteristic associated with the actuating signal, determine a hydraulic fluid flow rate in the hydraulic cylinder based on stored information relating the hydraulic fluid flow rate to the characteristic associated with the actuating signal, calculate a position of a component associated with the hydraulic cylinder based on the hydraulic fluid flow rate, and update the stored information when the determined position deviates from an actual position of the component.
