    Abstract: A thermostat having a thermostat controller for controlling a plurality of relays used to connect thermostat power to a plurality of wires of a thermostat run. The thermostat controller determines whether a signal is received from a watchdog timer within a predetermined period of time. When it is determined that the signal is not received from the watchdog timer within the predetermined period of time, the thermostat controller causes the plurality of relays to automatically be placed into an opened state.
