  • Patent number: 8221165
Abstract: A connector assembly includes a housing, an input conductor, and an output conductor. The housing is configured to mate with a mating connector. The input conductor is held in the housing and extends between a receiving end and a coupling end. The receiving end is configured to receive electric current from a power source. The coupling end is configured to join with a fuse inside the housing. The output conductor is held in the housing and extends between a transmission end and a joining end. The joining end is configured to couple with the fuse inside the housing. The transmission end is configured to convey the electric current to a first electric load. The input conductor and the output conductor are electrically coupled with one another via the fuse to provide a fused conductive pathway within the connector assembly over which the electric current passes from the power source to the first electric load.

  • Patent number: 8189282
Abstract: Servo patterns for patterned media. The servo pattern includes specification of cylinder/track ID with and without a Gray code. The servo pattern space is minimized by the optimum usage of the islands. This is achieved by island allocation rules to take advantage of non-magnetic island. The island allocation also provides for easier lift-off. Logic is used to encode and decode the Gray code. Further, the Gray code is designed to stabilize the magnetic island/non-magnetic island ratio to allow for easier manufacture.

  • Publication number: 20120128871
Abstract: A bit patterned magnetic media design for reducing the amount of magnetic material located in the trenches between topographic features is disclosed. An intermediate non-magnetic layer is deposited on the topography prior to depositing the functional magnetic layer on the topographic substrate features. The non-magnetic layer increases the width of the land regions that will ultimately support the functional magnetic layer. The non-magnetic layer also reduces the amount of trench deposition that can occur in the subsequent deposition of the magnetic recording layer. By eliminating most of the magnetic trench material, the amount of magnetic flux and readback interference produced by the trench material is reduced to an acceptable level.

  • Patent number: 8169751
Abstract: A structure for preventing Electrostatic Discharge (LSD) damage to a magnetoresistive sensor during manufacture. The structure includes a switching element that can be switched off during testing of the sensor and then switched back on to provide ESD shunting to the sensor. The switch can be a thermally activated mechanical relay built onto the slider. The switch could also be a programmable resistor that includes to solid electrolyte sandwiched between first and second electrodes. One of the electrodes functions as an anode. When voltage is applied in a first direction an ion bridge forms across through the electrolyte across electrodes making the resistor conductive. When a voltage is applied in a second direction, the ion bridge recedes and the programmable resistor becomes essentially non-conductive.

  • Publication number: 20120066509
Abstract: A multi-level security software architecture includes various components configured to provide full data separation across multiple processors while limiting the number and size of high assurance components. The architecture includes a domain separator for ensuring that messages exchanged between domains that are distributed on different microprocessors are securely routed between domain members. The domain separator verifies a message label including a domain identifier provided by a domain gateway and cryptographically binds the message label to each message via cryptographic keys. This prevents misrouting messages caused by accidental or malicious corruption of message labels. Additionally, the domain separator can encrypt messages as necessary to enforce data separation on shared network buses. The domain separator is also responsible for managing the cryptographic keys used to label or encrypt messages.

  • Patent number: 8134511
Abstract: A phased array antenna device is described. The phased array antenna device includes at least one one-dimensional phased array of radiating elements arranged along an array direction, a lens, and a phase control element. The lens is arranged such that divergent beams from the radiating elements are collimated by the lens in a direction orthogonal to the array direction to produce a beam. The phase control element is configured to apply a linear phase gradient to the radiating elements thereby providing one-dimensional electronic beam steering for the antenna device. The antenna device may additionally include one or two mechanical positioners to mechanically move the at least one one-dimensional phased array in directions orthogonal to the array direction, where the phased array enables scanning along the array direction.

  • Publication number: 20120024602
Abstract: Techniques for controlling drilling fluid cleaning apparatus that reclaim lost circulation material from spent drilling fluid are disclosed. In one embodiment, a system includes a tank, a density separation device, and a fluid density control system. The tank holds spent drilling fluid containing drilling fluid, lost circulation material, coarse solids and fine solids. The density separation device is coupled to an outlet of the tank. The density separation device provides an overflow stream and an underflow stream. The overflow stream contains less dense material than the underflow stream. The fluid density control system is configured to adjust the density of the spent drilling fluid provided to the density separation device by recirculating a portion of the underflow stream into the tank.
