    Abstract: Disclosed is a system that uses existing power line infrastructure in a building as a distributed reception antenna capable of receiving signals from very low-power wireless sensors, thus allowing these sensors to be detected at ranges that are otherwise impractical with over-the-air reception. Also disclosed is a wireless sensor platform that is able to be sensed throughout a building with very low current draw. The disclosed technique may also be utilized to extend the range of mid-frequency consumer electronic devices by leveraging the power line as a reception antenna.

The WPLP technique improves upon overall positioning accuracy, improved temporal stability and may be implemented in commercial indoor spaces.

    Abstract: A vertical shaft melting furnace is operated in a method that includes firing a plurality of burners to generate combustion products, and directing jets of the combustion products into the shaft in a bottom region of the shaft. The method further includes directing a jet of hot gas into the shaft in an upper region of the shaft in a non-radial direction, whereby the jet of hot gas can induce a swirl to disperse a concentrated channel of combustion products rising from the bottom region to the upper region through a void in unmelted portions of a load of metal pieces in the shaft. The jet of hot gas directed into the upper region of the shaft can include recirculated flue gas, a mixture of air and recirculated flue gas, or combustion products that are generated by a burner. If the jet of hot gas includes combustion products that are generated by a burner, the burner is a secondary burner that preferably is fired into the shaft with a relatively low heat input.

    Abstract: A system to re-inject drill cuttings slurry into a well formation for the storage of the cuttings. The system may include a pressure containing conduit that creates a flow path to an annulus within the well formation. The system may include an injection inlet, a drilling guide base, an injection adapter having a circular gallery, an injection mandrel having at least one injection port, and an annulus created between the injection mandrel and an inner casing. The slurry may be injected into the annulus while still drilling the wellbore. The location of the injection inlet may be positioned relative to the circular gallery of the injection adapter such that a cyclone effect is created within gallery minimizing erosion due to the flow of the slurry. The injection mandrel may be adapted to allow the passage of drilling mud to a downhole drilling location while injecting slurry into the casing annulus.

An isolation valve (32) communicates with the passageway and with apparatus for monitoring or controlling pressure of flow in the annulus. The passageway may be used with an open lower end to the annulus during drilling stages for material transfer and during production stage to monitor/control a sealed annulus.

    Abstract: A burner is disclosed having a burner chamber with heavily insulated heat retaining walls and a series of off center mixer tubes located at one end thereof. A uniform concentration gas/air mixture to 50% additional fuel above the lean flammability limit coming from the mixer tubes is ignited in the burner chamber due to the recirculation of combusting gas and air back to the end of the burner chamber above auto the ignition temperature for the mixture. The particular mixture disclosed utilizes 0.55-0.7 equivalence ratio.
