  • Patent number: 10842666
Abstract: A portable heating/cooling device for clinical hypo/hyperthermia with cuffs especially designed for arterial cooling/heating for raising or lowering the body temperature of a patient is operable by battery power or a wide range of available external power, and is usable in the field or in medical transport where such external power sources are not available. The small size, weight, and robust nature of the device allows it to be transported with the patient without the need for additional conveying devices.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 26, 2018
Date of Patent: November 24, 2020
    Assignee: GERATHERM MEDICAL AG

  • Patent number: 8173938
Abstract: A controller for a heating cable. The heating cable includes first and second conductors and a separation layer interposed between the conductors. The conductors and the separation layer extend along the length of the cable and electrical resistance provided by the separation layer between adjacent portions of the conductors has a negative temperature coefficient. The controller includes a first switch, arranged for connecting the first and second conductors in series at one end of the cable such that if the first and second conductors are connected at the other end of the cable to respective poles of a power supply currents flow in opposite directions through adjacent portions of the conductors. The controller further includes a second switch and voltage measurement functionality. The controller is arranged to control power to the cable as a function of measured voltage across the first resistor when both switches are open.

  • Publication number: 20080251509
Abstract: A controller (10) for a heating cable. The heating cable includes at least first (1) and second (5) conductors and a separation layer (4) interposed between the conductors (1, 5). The conductors (1, 5) and the separation layer (4) extend along the length of the cable and the electrical resistance provided by the separation layer (4) between adjacent portions of the conductors (1, 5) has a negative temperature coefficient. The controller (10) includes a first switch (13), arranged for connecting the first and second conductors (1, 5) electrically in series at one end of the cable such that if the first and second conductors (1, 5) are connected at the other end of the cable to respective poles of a power supply (L, N) currents flow in opposite directions through adjacent portions of the conductors (1, 5). The controller (10) further includes a second switch (16), arranged for connection in series between the first conductor (1) and a pole (L) of the power supply at the other end of the cable.
