  • Publication number: 20020135703
Abstract: Digital pictures are taken by a digital camera. The digital camera provides picture data with a large dynamic range of, for example, 10 bit. Data processing and display devices operate with 8 bit only, i.e do not take advantage of the high dynamic range of the camera This is important in traffic monitoring installations, where, on one hand, the driver in a relatively dark passenger compartment of a vehicle and, on the other hand, the bright license plate have to be recognized to provide evidence in court. For this reason, a dark picture and a bright picture are derived from the picture data provided by the camera. This is done by reading, on one hand, the eight least significant digits and, on the other hand, the eight most significant digits of the camera output to provide the dark and bright pictures, respectively. The dark and bright pictures thus obtained are balanced against color, gray, contrast or brightness values of histograms derived from previous pictures.

  • Patent number: 5997050
Abstract: A thin-walled steel tubing is to be constructed with a double cone coupling nipple for the tight screwed connection with a counterpart by way of a cap screw in a crack-resistant manner. The steel tubing is thin-walled and constructed of high-strength steel. With respect to the remaining tubing area, the nipple has at least partially at least approximately a double wall thickness. The steel tubing is not soft annealed at any point including the whole area of the nipple. With respect to the material, the contact surfaces of the nipple are harder than the surfaces of the countercontact. The cone angle of the sealing surface of the nipple measures over 100.degree..

  • Patent number: 5887555
Abstract: A cooling device for a fuel pump and for fuel in a marine internal combustion engine fuel system includes a housing for water circulation therethrough, a fuel pump disposed in the housing and cooled by the water therein, the fuel pump having a fuel inlet and a fuel outlet, a fuel conduit connected to the fuel pump inlet for delivering fuel to the fuel pump, and a fuel recycle line extending through the housing for conducting unused fuel from an internal combustion engine to the fuel conduit. The water circulating in the housing is operative to cool the fuel pump and fuel therein, and to cool the unused fuel in the fuel recycle line.

  • Patent number: 5712099
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the production of arabinonucleosides of general formula I ##STR1## in which X represents a hydrogen atom or a fluorine atom, from triacetates of general formula II ##STR2## in which X has the above-mentioned meaning, and the groupsAc respectively mean acetyl groups, which is characterized in that an esterase or lipase is caused to act on these compounds.

  • Patent number: 5700666
Abstract: A process for the production of arabinonucleotides of general formula I ##STR1## in which X represents a hydrogen atom or a fluorine atom, is described, which is characterized in that an arabinonucleoside of general formula II ##STR2## in which X has the above-mentioned meaning, is fermented in the presence of an aryl phosphate of general formula III ##STR3## in which Y symbolizes a hydrogen atom or a nitro group andZ symbolizes two hydrogen atoms or two alkali metal atoms, with a microorganism that is capable of phosphorylating nucleosides.

  • Patent number: 5636611
Abstract: In an arrangement for controlling the flow of compressed air from a cylinder of a Diesel engine which includes a decompression valve mounted on a cylinder to permit the discharge of compressed air from the cylinder into a discharge passage, the decompression valve is operable by high pressure fuel admitted to an operating cylinder of the decompression valve via a control line including a magnetic control valve for the admission of fuel from a high pressure fuel distribution duct from which fuel is also supplied to the engine fuel injectors via an injection pipe which also includes a magnetic control valve, and both control valves are operable by a control unit which independently energizes the magnetic control valves.

  • Patent number: 5630823
Abstract: Method and apparatus for fragmentation of a lung embolus. The apparatus includes a catheter that is introduced over a guide wire to the site of the lung embolism in the vascular system of a patient. When the guide wire is withdrawn from the distal end segment of the catheter, the distal end segment bends back proximally. An opening in the bend of the catheter is in line with the central axis of the catheter when the distal end segment is in a curved configuration. The guide wire is then advanced to extend distally from the catheter opening past the embolism and stabilize the longitudinal position of the catheter in the blood vessel. The apparatus also includes a thread for pulling the bent distal end segment into a generally oval-shaped loop condition and stabilizing the loop about the embolism. The looped catheter is then rotated and moved longitudinally back and forth for mechanically destroying the embolism.

  • Patent number: 5628911
Abstract: An improved partial oxidation, gasification process using low grade hydrocarbon feedstock involving the steps of gasification, waste heat recovery and carbon removal under formation of a soot water slurry containing the unburned carbon and ash. The soot water slurry is filtered to form a filtercake of carbon and ash, which cake is removed from the process. A direct once-through, partial oxidation process is thereby established, avoiding the recycle of unburned carbon and ash. The method also comprises filtration of the soot-ash slurries containing 0.5-3% unburned carbon and 0.1-2% ash having appreciable amounts of Fe, Ni and V. The slurry is cooled to a temperature below 80.degree. C. and filtered while confined between movable closed belts maintaining a constant pressure against the shrinking mass of carbon/ash particles until the moisture content is reduced to below 80% by weight.
