Abstract: Systems and methods utilize mixed reality technologies to enable remotely located expert surgeons to instruct novice surgeons as if they were together in the same operating room. An example method may involve: (1) displaying, on a virtual reality (VR) display worn by a first person located in a second geographic location, a 3D virtual reconstruction of a patient located in a first geographic location; (2) determining a spatial relationship between a hand gesture performed by the first person and the 3D virtual reconstruction of the patient; and (3) displaying, on an augmented reality (AR) display worn by a second person located in the first geographic location, a 3D avatar of the hand gesture made to appear in a spatial relationship to the surgical subject that mirrors the determined spatial relationship between the hand gesture and the 3D virtual reconstruction of the patient.

Abstract: Embodiments of the presently disclosed technology enable skilled surgeons and novices to share the same virtual space. Expert surgeons in remote sites can use Virtual Reality to access a 3D reconstruction of a patient's body and can instruct novice surgeons on complex procedures as if they were together in the operating room. Novice surgeons in the field can focus on saving the patient's life while being guided through an intuitive Augmented Reality interface.

Abstract: Systems and methods for protecting a user from external contamination with a mask. Exemplary embodiments may include a mask including an open threaded portion couplable to a filter; one or more extrusions on a front of the unibody mask to mount straps to the unibody mask; wherein the mask is made of silicone, and wherein the unibody mask presses against a face such that the unibody mask seals an interior of the unibody mask from an exterior of the unibody mask.
