  • Patent number: 7996089
Abstract: Apparatus for producing a dorsiflexion of the foot of a patient comprises a combined sensing and stimulation electrode device having neurosense and stimulation electrode means capable of sensing a nerve signal from a peripheral nerve and stimulating peripheral motor nerve fibers. The neurosense and stimulation electrode means are implantable above the knee of a patient. Means for receiving and processing the sensed nerve signals are provided to identify a signal indicative of the timing of hell strike and heel lift of the patient and for producing a control signal in response thereto. Means for operating said neurosense and stimulation electrode means in response to the control signal to produce stimulation of the peripheral motor nerve fibers are also provided.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 8, 2008
Date of Patent: August 9, 2011
    Assignee: Neurodan A/S
    Inventors: Morten Haugland, Thomas Sinkjaer

  • Patent number: 7403821
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and apparatuses for the detection of neural or muscular activity, analysis of the signals and the subsequent stimulating of neural or muscular tissue based thereon. According to a first aspect of the invention an apparatus for producing a muscular action is provided, comprising a combined sensing and stimulation electrode device comprising at least one neurosense electrode means capable of sensing a nerve signal from a peripheral nerve and at least one stimulation electrode means capable of stimulating a peripheral motor nerve fiber, means for receiving and processing the sensed neurosignals to identify a signal indicative of a specific action, especially a component of the gait performed by the patient and for producing a control signal in response thereto, and means for operating the at least one stimulation electrode means in response to the control signal to produce a stimulation of a peripheral motor nerve fiber.

  • Patent number: 7086996
Abstract: A balance training apparatus for supporting an individual with a limited liability to maintain his or her on balance has a pair of vertical support rods connected to a base by joints which include lower elastic parts tending to bias the user into an upright position. The two support rods are connected by a brace for supporting the pelvis of the user and knee supports are provided between the two support rods for yieldably pressing the knees of the user.

  • Patent number: 6836684
Abstract: A method to control an overactive bladder and to estimate bladder volume using an implanted sensor having at least one nerve electrode to sense electrical signals. The method includes detecting events from nerve signals, generating electrical pulses for stimulating nerves, and stimulating the nerves to inhibit detrusor contraction. Bladder volume may also be estimated based on the amplitude of the detected nerve signals and/or the time between two detected nerve signals from consecutive detrusor contractions.

  • Publication number: 20040147975
Abstract: The Functional Electrical Therapy System (FETS) relates to an apparatus and the method of its application for recovery of upper limb functioning in humans with sensory-motor lesion in the central nervous system having impact to reaching and grasping. The recovery is contributed by 1) the electrical stimulation of efferent nerves that augment and/or generate missing functions of the upper limb, 2) electrically induced strong input to the central nervous system via afferent nerves, 3) intensive exercise by the same paretic upper limb, and 4) increased awareness of being able to accomplish the task. The methods comprise the use of the novel apparatus that provides missing or diminished functions of the upper limb during intensive daily exercise of performing typical daily activities that requires these functions.

  • Publication number: 20030181299
Abstract: A balance training apparatus is disclosed for supporting individuals with a reduced ability to maintain balance while standing, comprising means for biasing a user towards an upright position when deviating therefrom in two planes. The apparatus comprises a variable spring system that combines a 2-degrees-of-freedom joint with said biasing means into a single element in a simple and advantageous construction.
