  • Patent number: 8423690
Abstract: A method includes generating a storage device request directed to a register of a computing device that is used to access a storage device of the compute device. The method further includes determining with a media redirection device to redirect the storage device request to a storage device connected to a network. The method further includes transmitting over a host bus of the computing device a packetized message representing the storage device request from the media redirection device to a network controller. An associated apparatus is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20110035526
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses that utilize a serial bus, such as a universal serial bus (USB), for communications between a communications network, a computing device, and an auxiliary device are disclosed. Some embodiments comprise methods handling sideband communications using serial buses. One or more of the embodiments comprise differentiating in-band data from out-of-band data, transferring information of the in-band data between a communications network and a computing device, and transferring information of the out-of-band data between the communications network and an auxiliary device. Some embodiments comprise an apparatus having a communications network interface, an auxiliary device interface, and a computing device interface. Of the interfaces, one or more may be a serial bus interface. The apparatus may differentiate between in-band and out-of-band data and communicate information of the out-of-band data to an auxiliary device. In some embodiments, the apparatus may also transfer control information.

  • Publication number: 20080046628
Abstract: A management controller configured to generate and transmit transport layer packets to send management messages to a plurality of recipients managed by the management controller, co-disposed on the same computing platform, is disclosed and described herein. The managed recipients may be coupled to the management controller via buses of different bus types. The management controller is configured to logically address the managed recipients, to automatically split a management message over multiple packets when constrained by data bandwidth of a bus of a particular bus type, or to appropriately format the transport layer packets for the different buses of different bus types.

  • Publication number: 20050138171
Abstract: A segment of data is accepted from a host system, a portion of the segment identifying a broadcast domain. The portion is compared with an identifier for an excluded broadcast domain, and the segment is filtered from a network connection if the portion corresponds to the identifier.

  • Publication number: 20050125199
Abstract: A computer monitoring system includes a sensor, a non-volatile storage and a controller. The sensor measures a parameter of a computer, and the non-volatile storage holds a threshold representing a limit for the parameter. The controller is configured to determine a normal operating range for the parameter and modify the threshold to match the limit of the normal operating range more closely.
