    Abstract: A method and a device for generating a plasma jet under atmospheric pressure for the surface treatment of workpieces has a supply line for the plasma-capable medium, and an apparatus for electrically exciting the plasma-capable medium by an electric arc periodically ignited between a cathode and an anode constructed as a nozzle. To achieve a highly effective plasma jet even at relatively low temperatures of the plasma jet, a heating apparatus for preheating the plasma-capable medium is arranged upstream of the apparatus for electrically exciting the plasma-capable medium.
