  • Patent number: 8434541
Abstract: A pressing module for the press-forming and curing of impregnated conductor bars for large electrical machines, such as for example hydro generators, can be distinguished by an improved closing system for applying the pressing pressure, and a pressing apparatus equipped therewith, the handling of which involves significantly reduced work. A pressing module (1) has a pressing vat (2) for applying a horizontal pressing force and a pressing yoke (3) for applying a vertical pressing force. The closing units (6) and (7) for applying the horizontal and vertical pressing forces have a housing (20), which receives, slidingly mounted therein, a pressing piston (21), which is in operative connection with an axially fixed, rotatable threaded bolt (27) in such a way that a turning movement of the threaded bolt (27) brings about an axial movement of the pressing piston (21). An axial bearing (3), supported on a spring assembly (35), provides a flexible mounting of the pressing piston (21).

  • Patent number: 8435288
Abstract: A shipping system for a medical device, such as implantable lens for an eye, is provided that may be reconfigured from a shipping mode into an injection mode without manually handling the contained lens or other device. Upon manufacture, a lens may be placed within the system assembly in the shipping configuration. While in the shipping configuration, the lens is kept in its desired shape and within a selected environment. Upon arrival at the destination, the user may attach fittings for injection of the device into a body. The process of changing from the shipping to the injection mode deforms the device into a shape suitable for injection.

  • Patent number: 8438628
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for split-terminating a secure client-server communication connection, with client authentication. During handshaking between the client and the server, cooperating network intermediaries relay the handshaking messages, without altering the messages. At least one of the intermediaries possesses a private key of the server, and extracts a set of data fields from the handshaking messages, including a Client-Key-Exchange message that can be decrypted with the private key. The intermediary uses the extracted data to compute the client-server session key separate from the client's and the server's similar computation, and may transmit the key to the other intermediary via a secure communication channel. The client and the server thus establish the end-to-end client-server connection, and may authenticate each other, after which the network intermediaries may intercept and optimize the client-server communications transparently to the client and the server.

  • Patent number: 8435204
Abstract: The present invention provides methods and systems for conditioning cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) by removing target compounds from CSF. A multilumen flow path allows exchange of a majority volume portion of CSF in the CSF space. The removal and/or delivery of specific compounds can be tailored to the pathology of the specific disease. The removal is targeted and specific, for example, through the use of specific size-exclusion thresholds, antibodies against specific toxins, and other chromatographic techniques, as well as delivery and/or removal of targeted therapeutic agents.

  • Patent number: 8434220
Abstract: In one embodiment, a meta-module having circuitry for two or more modules is formed on a substrate, which is preferably a laminated substrate. The circuitry for the different modules is initially formed on the single meta-module. Each module will have one or more component areas in which the circuitry is formed. A metallic structure is formed on or in the substrate for each component area to be shielded. A single body, such as an overmold body, is then formed over all of the modules on the meta-module. At least a portion of the metallic structure for each component area to be shielded is then exposed through the body by a cutting, drilling, or like operation. Next, an electromagnetic shield material is applied to the exterior surface of the body of each of the component areas to be shielded and in contact with the exposed portion of the metallic structures.

Abstract: A brush section for use with an electric toothbrush includes a movable contact element holder and a fixed contact element holder. The movable contact element holder is driven to move relative to the fixed contact element holder by an electric drive in a handle section which is coupled to the movable contact element holder. The risk of oral mucosa being pinched by the movement is minimized by any one of several methods, such as for example reducing the width of the gap between the two holders, adding a cover member, reducing the movement of the movable contact element holder, and the like. In addition, a low profile brush section is provided.

  • Patent number: 8436553
Abstract: A lighting arrangement includes a light fixture including a plurality of light sources wherein each light source is configured to generate a different color light when energized; and a circuit arrangement included in the light fixture and operatively interposed between the plurality of light sources and a source of electrical power. This circuit arrangement is responsive to brief interruptions in the supply of electrical power of less than a predetermined period to simultaneously de-energize all of the light sources for a full duration of the interruption and to subsequently toggle energization from one light source to the next and thereby produce different color light in response to the cessation of the brief interruption.

  • Patent number: 8438037
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention is directed to a computer-implemented system that analyzes free-form text comments provided by a user (such as a customer of a company) and draws conclusions about the tone of the user's feedback, such as whether the user's feedback is positive, negative, angry, critical, or congratulatory. Such conclusions may be reflected in a single numerical value referred to herein as “emotivity.” A customer's emotivity score may be used for various purposes, such as determining whether the customer is likely to provide a positive testimonial for the company, or whether a follow-up phone call should be made to the customer to improve the company's relationship with the customer. Furthermore, a measurement of the customer's loyalty to the company may be modified based on the user's measured emotivity.

  • Patent number: 8434196
Abstract: Multi-axis compliant hinges used in conjunction with strut elements to form a collapsible structure. The hinges behaves similar to a pin-clevis hinges but have increased compliance during the deployment sequence allowing connected struts to translate and rotate finite amounts relative to each other. Once deployed, the hinges lock out to form strong and stiff joints. The hinge uses two opposing resilient tape spring surfaces for each axis. The opposing tape spring surfaces of each axis are joined together by rigid inserts at their ends opposite the common connection point and to which structural members or struts are connected.
