The light olefin fraction is contacted with a first oligomerization catalyst in a first oligomerization zone to produce a first product. Both the medium olefin fraction and the first product are contacted with a second oligomerization catalyst in a second oligomerization zone to produce a second product. The second product is separated into a light byproduct fraction and a heavy product fraction that includes hydrocarbons in the lube base stock range.

    Abstract: The residual olefin content of the alkylation reaction product of a single-ring aromatic hydrocarbon with an olefin is reduced by removing at least a portion of the non-alkylated single-ring aromatic hydrocarbon, then reacting the remaining alkylation reaction product at about atmospheric pressure and at a temperature of about from 100.degree. to 250.degree. C. in the presence of an acidic catalyst. The olefin has at least sixteen carbon atoms. The acidic catalyst can be a molecular sieve (such as a natural or synthetic zeolite) or clay.

At least a portion of the pentyltoluenes is then contacting in a reforming zone with reforming catalyst, at reforming conditions. At least a portion of the pentyltoluenes is converted to dimethylnaphthalenes.

    Abstract: An alkylated aromatic hydrocarbon is produced having the following properties: (a) less than 40 wt. % of the alkylated aromatic hydrocarbon is 2-aryl; and (b) at least 20 wt. % of the alkylated aromatic hydrocarbon is a monoalkylate. That alkylated aromatic hydrocarbon is produced by isomerizing a normal alpha-olefin having from 20 to 28 carbon atoms in the presence of a first acidic catalyst to produce a partially-branched, isomerized olefin, then either benzene or toluene is alkylated with the partially-branched, isomerized olefin in the presence of a second solid, acidic catalyst. The first acidic catalyst can be a molecular sieve with a one-dimensional pore system. The second acidic catalyst can be a zeolite Y having a silica to alumina ratio of at least 40:1.

    Abstract: A process is disclosed for dewaxing a hydrocarbon feed to produce a dewaxed lube oil. The feed includes straight chain and slightly branched chain paraffins having 10 or more carbon atoms. In the process the feed is contacted under isomerization conditions with an intermediate pore size molecular sieve having a crystallite size of no more than about 0.5.mu. and pores with a minimum diameter of at least 4.8.ANG. and with a maximum diameter of 7.1.ANG. or less. The catalyst has sufficient acidity so that 0.5 g thereof when positioned in a tube reactor converts at least 50% of hexadecane at 370.degree. C., a pressure of 1200 psig, a hydrogen flow of 160 ml/min, and a feed rate of 1 ml/hr. It also exhibits 40 or greater isomerization selectivity when used under conditions leading to 96% conversion of hexadecane to other chemicals. The catalyst includes at least one Group VIII metal. The contacting is carried out at a pressure from about 15 psig to about 3000 psig.

C. and 900 psig, and (b) forming a one-phase mixture with the polymer when the mixture contains 10 weight percent cosolvent at ambient temperature and a pressure sufficient to maintain the cosolvent in the liquid phase. New compositions containing CO.sub.2, the defined polymer and cosolvent are also claimed as is a method for recovering oil from underground formations using a viscosified CO.sub.2.

That minimum solubility parameter is reduced to 6.85 (cal/cc).sup.1/2 or less by control of the number of pendant silyl ether groups and by the selection of said silyl ether groups. The polymer can be formed by reacting a olefin monomer with a silyl monomer or by grafting a silyl monomer onto an unsaturated polyolefin. Preferably, the silyl monomer is either a vinyl trimethylsilyl ether monomer, a vinyl dimethylchlorosilane monomer, or a vinyl methyldichlorosilane monomer. Preferably, the olefin monomer is decene, and the unsaturated polyolefin is polydecene.
