Patent number: 8879074Abstract: Systems and methods allow remote computerized devices to control the scanner of an apparatus through the communications port of the apparatus. Additionally, systems and methods provide a user-selectable remote start option on the graphic user interface of the apparatus and require input of user credentials through the graphic user interface when a user selects the remote start option. The scanner is placed into private mode when a user selects the remote start option, which restricts scanner control to only those of the remote computerized devices that provide the proper user credentials. Further, a user-selectable private mode release option is provided on the graphic user interface, which requires input of the user credentials through the graphic user interface. When scanning, the scanner produces scanned images, which are released through the communications port to only those of the remote computerized devices that provide the proper user credentials.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 2011Date of Patent: November 4, 2014Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventor: Thomas W. Patent number: 8730543Abstract: Methods perform at least two different segments of a scan job by sequentially scanning the different segments using an optical scanner. Each of the different segments is scanned with the optical scanner manually set to different settings. The methods automatically combine the different settings to produce a recurring scan workflow. The recurring scan workflow includes such different settings of the different segments and information of the number of pages scanned in each of the different segments. Further, such methods perform at least one later scan job having later segments corresponding to the different segments of the original scan job after creating the recurring scan workflow. During the later scan job the computerized device automatically changes settings of the optical scanner between the later segments, without requiring the user to manually change the different settings between the later segments.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 2012Date of Patent: May 20, 2014Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Kari K. Poysa, Thomas W. Nash

Patent number: 5571991Abstract: An enclosure for an electronic device forms a barrier to electro-magnetic radiation. A typical cross-section of the enclosure comprises three parallel layers. The outer and inner surface layers are of a polymeric base material in which is suspended an electrically conductive fill material, giving the surface layers relatively high electrical conductivity. The middle layer is of a polymeric base material, in which is suspended fill material having high magnetic permeability, giving the middle layer relatively high magnetic permeability. In the preferred embodiment, the enclosure is constructed using a co-injection molding process. Nickel-coated graphite (high conductivity) in a polymeric base is injected into a mold from the outer co-injection nozzle, while carbonyl iron powder (high permeability) in a polymeric base is injected into the mold from the inner co-injection nozzle.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1995Date of Patent: November 5, 1996Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Edward A. Patent number: 5510881Abstract: An apparatus for recirculating developer material in a developer unit. The apparatus includes a first transporter for transporting the developer material in a first direction, a second transporter for transporting the developer material in a second direction opposite to the first direction, and a mover for moving the developer material from the first transporter to the second transporter.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1994Date of Patent: April 23, 1996Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Lewis S. Smith, Thomas W. Nash, Steven C. Hart

Patent number: 5019859Abstract: Highlight color imaging apparatus and method for creating highlight color images that allows the inter-image areas to be used for developability or other control functions notwithstanding the necessity of developer switching. The black and highlight color images are separately formed and the order of image formation is one where the black image (B1) for the first copy is formed, followed by the highlight color image (C1) for the first copy; then the highlight color image (C2) for the second copy; then the black image (B2) for the second copy; then the black image (B3) for the third copy and finally the highlight color image (C3) for the third copy. With the foregoing order of image creation, developer switching is not required when two adjacent images are the same color. When developer switching is not required the inter-image area can be used for process control such as developability to form a test pattern thereat.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 1990Date of Patent: May 28, 1991Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventor: Thomas W. Patent number: 4926790Abstract: An apparatus which transports and mixes developer material in the chamber of a developer housing. An auger advances a portion of the developer material from one end to the other end of the housing. The auger has an expansion chamber extending over a portion of the chamber through which at least a portion of the developer material flows. The expansion chamber increases the mixing of the developer material and the triboelectric charge of the toner particles.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 1988Date of Patent: May 22, 1990Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventor: Thomas W.
