Publication number: 20080073310Abstract: The invention is a closure system comprising a container having a finish and a land located at the top of the finish. The outer wall of the finish, just below the land, is vertical and the land slopes downwardly, toward the outside of the container, at an angle of between about 1° and 10°. A band, adapted to be received onto the finish of the container, has a top portion and an annular lip extending inwardly therefrom. A disk, adapted to be inserted between the band and the container land, has a raised peripheral bead, the underside of the bead presenting a downwardly facing channel containing a gasket material. The ratio of the widths of the channel:land is in the range of about 2:1 to 1:1. When the disk is inserted into the band, a hook portion on the annular lip engages the top and inside edge of the bead.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 6, 2006Publication date: March 27, 2008Inventors: Thomas C. Horton, Patrick E. McCallister, Thomas W. Osip, Marc S. Velmer

Publication number: 20030068411Abstract: A microwaveable pasta product is provided. The product comprises a dried pasta product in a microwaveable container. The microwaveable container comprises a bowl having a generally-ovular bottom and a generally-ovular outer wall in generally-perpendicular relation to the circumference of the generally-ovular bottom. The bottom and outer wall together define a cavity in which the dried pasta product is contained. The container accommodates foam expansion without sacrificing product appearance or shelf space.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 28, 2001Publication date: April 10, 2003Inventors: Patrick E. McCallister, Thomas W. Osip, Nikia J. Hyman

Publication number: 20030068410Abstract: A product for retail sale includes a food product exhibiting the characteristic of syneresis in an improved container. The product minimizes the problems and inconvenience associated with dispensing such food products from conventional bottles. The container has a generally box-like shape with a spout located near the base of the container. The contents may be dispensed by squeezing without inverting the container. The product may be stacked for efficient storage, shipping, and display.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 5, 2001Publication date: April 10, 2003Inventors: Paul A. Pezzoli, Thomas W. Osip

Patent number: 5531682Abstract: An apparatus is useful for dye marking a liquid enteral nutritional product during delivery thereof from a supply container to a feeding tube delivering the nutritional product to the gastrointestinal tract of a patient. A formulation chamber, such as a drip chamber, is connectable to the supply container. At least one sustained release reservoir containing a physiologically acceptable marker dye is positioned within the formulation chamber, or if not, is included as part of a kit. The sustained release reservoir may be in the form of a coated tablet, osmotically driven device, coated capsule, microencapsulated microspheres, agglomerated molecular sieving material, or chopped hollow fibers having permeable walls. A liquid communication means connects the formulation chamber to the feeding tube of a patient. The marker dye may be a colorant dye or a fluorescing dye or a mixture thereof.Type: GrantFiled: January 13, 1995Date of Patent: July 2, 1996Assignee: Abbott LaboratoriesInventors: Terrence B. Patent number: 5042226Abstract: There is disclosed a closure which permits the opening of a membrane sealed nutritional or pharmaceutical product container in a single action motion which also maintains a hermetic seal under retort conditions. This closure includes a generally cylindrical side wall having threads along the inner surface thereof and retaining means for cooperative engagement with the lip of a plastic container, and a top having an annular rim portion and a center portion, with the top having a lower surface attached to a heat-sealable barrier able to be secured to the plastic container, with the top also having a center portion removal means. A method is also disclosed for providing a hermetic seal on plastic containers using the closure and plastic container of this invention.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1990Date of Patent: August 27, 1991Assignee: Abbott Labs.Inventors: Thomas W. Osip, Jerold W. Montgomery, Paul A. Pezzoli
