  • Patent number: 10648258
Abstract: In a method for sealing and controlling fluid pressure in an annular fluid passageway in a wellbore related process, use is made of an annular fluid passageway sealing device, which includes a chamber delimited by chamber end members each provided with an opening therein so that the drilling tubulars string passes through said chamber and said chamber end members. The lower chamber end member is exposed, at least partially, to wellbore related fluid pressure in the annular fluid passageway. The housing is provided with an inlet and an outlet in communication with said chamber. Use is made of a pump that circulates a high viscosity liquid. The inlet and the outlet are vertically offset from each other and the chamber is provided with one or more narrow annular gap defining members that are arranged between vertically spaced apart feed and discharge zones.

  • Patent number: 9121239
Abstract: A device for anchoring in a casing in a borehole in the ground. The device comprises a shaft oriented in an axial direction, the shaft having a torque transfer section. The torque transfer section has axially oriented outer cam surfaces extending radially outwardly in a rotational sense. The shaft further has a plurality of clamping bodies circumferentially distributed around the torque transfer section with a limited movability relative to the torque transfer section in rotational sense and in radial directions. The clamping bodies each have an inner, axially oriented clamping body surface facing one of the cam surfaces of the torque transfer section and an outer surface defining a segment of a cylinder coaxial with said shaft.

  • Patent number: 8613309
Abstract: When inserting a tube into a borehole in the ground for extracting minerals, tube parts are successively added to the proximal end of the tube while the tube reaches into the borehole. Thereafter, the tube is inserted further into the borehole. As the addition of the tube part is carried out by welding, each time an eminently sealing and slender joint between the tube parts is obtained. As the tube parts are successively added to the tube only when this is necessary for inserting the tube further into the ground, winding up the tube to store it prior to insertion is not necessary and the use of a tube-carrying reel which is difficult to handle is thus rendered redundant. Further, an installation for carrying out the proposed method is described.

  • Patent number: 6581692
Abstract: An apparatus for making up and breaking out of a tubing string in a well includes a connector (9; 109) for connection to a tubular (1) and a main high pressure conduit (13; 113) communicating with the connector (9; 109) for allowing circulation through a tubular (1) connected thereto. Below that unit a connecting shell (17; 117) bounding a connecting chamber (18) has an upper passage (19) and a lower passage (20), a preventer (23) for separating an upper portion (24) of the connecting chamber (18) from a lower portion (25) thereof, and a back-up high pressure conduit (26) communicating with the connecting chamber (18). A pressure corresponding to the pressure in the upper portion (24) of the connecting chamber (18) is provided in at least one pressure chamber (51; 151) and exerts a force pressing a tubular (1) or the connector (9; 109) into the connecting chamber (18) against forces exerted by pressure in the connecting chamber (18).

  • Patent number: 6523611
Abstract: In completing a well bore in a underground formation, the well bore being closed off by a closing structure for blocking flow of pressurized fluid through the well bore, a substantially tubular element having a tube wall surrounding an axial bore is passed through the closing structure. The tube wall having passed the closing structure is processed along at least a portion of its axial dimension from a first condition into a second, processed condition. In the first condition, the tube wall is substantially impermeable in radial direction to pressurized fluid for precluding a flow of pressurized fluid from passing the penetrated closing structure. In the second condition the tube wall is radially permeable to pressurized fluid along at least a processed portion of its axial dimension. A tubular element to be used in such an application is described as well.

  • Patent number: 6435280
Abstract: For making of breaking a coupling between a pipe section (1) and a pipe string (2) projecting from a rotary drilling rig into a bore in the lithosphere, the pipe section (1) is rotated relative to the pipe string (2) by applying a torque up to a make-up or breaking torque. Exertion of said torque generates a reactive torque in an opposite sense of rotation. Rotation induced by a motor (17; 50) is transferred to the pipe string (2) so that said pipe string (2) is rotated as well. The reactive torque is transferred to the pipe string (2) along a path bypassing the motor (17; 50). Thus, the make-up or breaking torque can be exerted without requiring a substantial change of the torque exerted to rotate the pipe string (2) at a constant rotational velocity in order to avoid changes of the rotational velocity of the pipe string (2). A pipe coupling device and a pipe handler for carrying out this method are described as well.
