  • Publication number: 20060212061
Abstract: A surgical portal apparatus for permitting introduction of a surgical object within tissue includes a portal member defining a longitudinal axis and having leading and trailing ends. The portal member includes an outer wall defining a longitudinal opening dimensioned for reception of a surgical object. At least one projection is disposed on the outer wall of the portal member and extends in at least a radial direction relative to the longitudinal axis. The at least one projection is dimensioned and configured for engaging tissue to resist movement of the portal member within tissue. The at least one projection defines a recess dimensioned for receiving tissue portions adjacent thereto. Preferably, a plurality of projections is spaced about the outer wall of the portal member. At least two of the projections are circumferentially spaced relative to the longitudinal axis and/or at least two of the projections are longitudinally spaced relative to the longitudinal axis.

  • Publication number: 20060149305
Abstract: A seal assembly for use with an access apparatus during a surgical procedure includes a housing defining a longitudinal axis and having a passageway dimensioned to permit passage of an object. The housing is adapted for mounting to a surgical access apparatus and has internal wall portions defining an internal chamber. A seal is mounted within the internal chamber of the housing and is adapted to form a substantial sealing relation with the object. The seal is mounted for reciprocal movement within the internal chamber in a general transverse direction to the longitudinal axis. A viscous fluid is disposed within the internal chamber surrounding the seal and is adapted to form a substantial seal between the seal and the internal wall portions of the housing. The fluid may have lubricious characteristic to facilitate sliding movement of the seal relative to the internal wall portions of the housing.

  • Publication number: 20050067428
Abstract: A dispenser retains a plurality of elongated items such as tie wraps while permitting convenient, quick and easy access. The dispenser includes a housing that defines a chute. A strap attaches to the housing to enclose the chute and, in turn, retain the items. During removal of items, a holding tension is maintained on the remaining items. After emptying, the dispenser can be refilled and used repeatedly. A ball joint couples a mounting feature to the housing so that the dispenser can be mounted at a desirable location and adjusted to a desirable dispensing position.
