  • Publication number: 20040055687
Abstract: A pneumatic tire has a crown-reinforcing insert which extends from under the tread substantially, such as at least one-third of the sidewall height, into the sidewall of the tire. Apexes extend from the beads substantially, such as at least one-third of the sidewall height, into the sidewall of the tire, thereby effecting a substantial, such as at least one-third of the sidewall height, “overlap” between end portions of the crown-reinforcing insert and the apexes. Additionally, at least one belt extends from under the tread substantially into the sidewall, and the turn-ups of at least some of the plies extend quite high, such as at least one-third of the sidewall height, into the sidewall. This combination of features yields superior runflat performance.

  • Publication number: 20030076558
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for communicating multimedia information. Exemplary embodiments provide a Video-to-Optical apparatus (“V2O”) that can be used over either a private or a public optical network and transfers multimedia information in SONET/SDH frame format. The V2O uses SONET/SDH frames to transmit high-resolution stereoscopic images and other multimedia information through an optical network with high efficiency, high accuracy and low latency. The V2O interfaces with a visualization graphics-server on one side and the optical network on the other. The V2O apparatus can be placed in an optical network that offers an end-to-end OC 3 or higher rate circuit. A plurality of multimedia visualization centers can be coupled to the optical network.

  • Publication number: 20020077795
Abstract: A method for predicting impact performance of an article constructed of a material includes: applying physical properties of the material to a constitutive model; performing at least one of uniaxial, biaxial, and triaxial property tests on samples of the material shaped according to test geometries; performing finite element simulation analysis on the test geometries using the constitutive model; determining failure criteria of the material using data from the uniaxial, biaxial, and triaxial property tests and the finite element simulation analysis on the test geometries; and applying the failure criteria and the constitutive model to finite element simulation analysis of the article.

  • Publication number: 20020065613
Abstract: A method for predicting impact performance of an article constructed of a material includes: applying physical properties of the material to a constitutive model; performing biaxial property tests on painted samples of the material shaped according to test geometries; performing finite element simulation analysis on the test geometries using the constitutive model; determining maximum principle stress levels from the finite element simulation analysis corresponding to experimental failure displacements obtained from the biaxial property tests; and applying the maximum principle stress levels and the constitutive model to finite element simulation analysis of the article.

  • Patent number: 5768715
Abstract: A head protector includes two bands of material, one of which extends from beneath the chin to the top of the head, and the other of which extends from the forehead to the rear of the head. These bands are interconnected together to form a unitary device although, if desired, each band may be used individually. Each band includes padded portions which are preferably filled with a silastic gelin material which is located in areas designed to protect the eye sockets and eyes, zygoma, temporal bones and occiput which are the major bone complexes making up the lower sides and lower back of the skull. Additionally, the head protector protects the ear zygoma, the jaw and the top of the head vertex.

  • Patent number: 5710887
Abstract: A system for facilitating commercial transactions, between a plurality of customers and at least one supplier of items over a computer driven network capable of providing communications between the supplier and at least one customer site associated with each customer. Each site includes an associated display and an input device through which the customer can input information into the system. At least one supplier is presented on the display for selection by the customer using the input device. Similarly items from a supplier can be displayed for the customer to observe.
