  • Publication number: 20070083069
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the oligomerization of an olefin in the presence of a selectivity enhancing alcohol modifier wherein the modifier is formed by the reaction of olefin and water in a first reaction, and the thus formed modifier substantially free of water is separated and passed to a second reaction wherein olefin is oligomerized in the presence of the said modifier.

  • Publication number: 20070043247
Abstract: A method for forming diisobutylene from a hydrocarbon stream that contains acetylenics and a low concentration of isobutylene, comprising at least reducing the acetylenic content of the stream before catalytically oligomerizing the isobutylene to diisobutylene.
    Type: Application
    Filed: August 19, 2005

  • Publication number: 20060241326
Abstract: This invention is a process for producing diisobutylene from isobutylene. The process comprises first forming dry sulfonic acid resin by contacting water wet sulfonic acid resin catalyst with a first reaction feed comprising isobutylene under conditions effective to produce tertiary butyl alcohol from the reaction of isobutylene and water, and then contacting the dry sulfonic acid resin with a second reaction feed comprising isobutylene under conditions effective to oligomerize isobutylene to produce diisobutylene.
    Type: Application
    Filed: April 22, 2005
    Publication date: October 26, 2006

  • Publication number: 20060111598
Abstract: This invention is a process for producing diisobutylene from isobutylene. The process comprises contacting isobutylene with a solid adsorbent to remove sulfur and/or nitrogen impurities from the isobutylene, followed by oligomerizing the isobutylene to diisobutylene using a sulfonic acid-type ion exchange resin. The solid adsorbent removes sulfur and/or nitrogen impurities from the isobutylene and surprisingly increases both catalyst activity and catalyst life of the sulfonic acid-type ion exchange resin.
