    Abstract: A single-sided, slip resistant, self-adhesive material is produced using a blown film process which produces a film having an interior layer capable of being treated or coated to accept a pressure sensitive adhesive, a middle layer of flexible polyolefin and an exterior polyolefin elastomer layer in combination with a blowing agent to produce a single-sided slip resistant material. A number of in-line rollers are optionally provided after a pair of nip rollers, which form part of a machine direction orienter (MDO) that is used in line in the manufacturing process to heat, and then cool and condition (anneal and relieve any stresses and/or thickness inconsistencies) the film prior to the film being coated on one side with a pressure sensitive adhesive.

    Abstract: A roofing membrane underlayment material includes a fibrous mat generally encapsulated within a non-adhesive asphalt coating, the resulting encapsulated mat having an adhesive asphalt layer applied to one surface thereof, typically the bottom surface. An acrylic, talc or granular coating is applied to the surface of the encapsulated mat that is not in contact with the adhesive asphalt layer. The non-adhesive asphalt coating is characterized in that it includes a high filler content made possible by the use of non-oxidized flux asphalt to which has been added a small percentage of an asphalt additive such as radial or linear polymer or other elastomer. The resulting membrane, when applied to a roofing deck, provides a high traction surface that will not adhere to shingles and provides an effective waterproofing seal on the roofing deck and is flexible in both hot and cold environments.

The adhesive surface area includes a layer of self-adhesive material, such as rubberized asphalt, capable of adhering to the clean surface area when strips of the roofing membrane are overlapped. The adhesive surface area is covered with a release backing to prevent adherence to the roofing surface area.

A rubberized asphalt coating is applied to the lower surface of the fibrous mat and extends at least partially into the fibrous mat. An oxidized asphalt coating is applied to the upper and lower surfaces of the fibrous mat generally encapsulating the fibrous mat including the rubberized asphalt coating provided on the lower surface of the fibrous mat.
